Chance this former West Virgina QB plays for a team in the state of Texas next season.

He's a Aggie Legacy but has had recent contact with some of the Texas staff.

A&M and Texas seem likely but wouldn't be surprised if he ended up at a SMU or a Houston.

No. He comes with the baggage of a part history of alcohol abuse while at W.Va. We don't need character issues or distractions. I am sure be is a nice guy and that he has received counseling for his substance abuse issues, but we need to continue to focus on players with a future, not ones with a past.

Maybe its just me - but I don't look at him being a recovering alcoholic as a character issue.  This isn't me trying to be PC - rather I think a kid his age who has turned it around (assuming he has) has the character of someone well beyond his years.

Everyone deserves a second chance and Charlie Strong is a PERFECT mentor for someone like that. After Manziel and Hill I wouldn't want my kid near him if he had past alcohol issues.

Childress had a DUI just weeks after showing up on campus and was suspended from the team for an entire semester last January (which lead to his leaving WVU for Trinity Valley). If Coach Strong wants him, then I am sure he will make room for him on the team, but if things progress more slowly for Coach Strong than he plans, he has to be ready for people to start bringing up some of his more questionable decisions. One more problem from a player with a history of problems is a risk that I don't think Coach Strong should take. Same for bringing in a DL coach under an active show cause order.

I get that Charlie Strong might be the perfect mentor for a troubled kid, but Coach Strong isn't getting paid to run a reform school. He is getting paid to manage a very public part of the university's athletics program. The fewer unnecessary risks he takes, the fewer unnecessary risks blow up in his face and cause unnecessary distractions.

If you're Ray Childress, who do you want mentoring your son? Strong or Sumblin? Swag or Core Values? Doesn't look like a tough decision to me.

But, is Ford really a dual-threat QB? Does he fit the new offense?
