Feel good Mack stories don't resonate right now since he blocked Saban

I know Mack did a lot of good things since coming here but I just can't get past what he did to derail the possibility of Saban becoming the next UT coach. He had his chance to exit in a manner he thinks he is worthy of and he blew it. I might look back on what he brought to UT someday and feel appreciative but at this moment I see him for what he is, a self-centered, paranoid, PR man that knew he would be overshadowed by Saban and decided to "recruit" out of state more than he has in years. For all you guys who remember when college basketball didn't have a shot clock, mack and powers went into a "Four Corners" stall plan to run the clock out on our chances with Saban.

Saban might have decided to stay at bama anyway but to sabotage any chance to reel in the best coach in the country is in my mind inexcusable. So all the "mack is a great person" threads feel hollow since we just saw him completely put himself above the desires of the fans and the BMDs that pay(and have paid) his ever-increasing salary all these years.

Maybe I'll feel different with time but I suspect he will always be linked to thwarting our chance to have the program led by Saban in my eyes.

Couldn't agree more. Mack really screwed us. We needed a "big splash" hire and Saban was the most realistic option and I fear now we'll end up no better than ND or Michigan.

yeah i think we all went threw the UT version of the RED WEDDING friday nite about the time Mack took the podium.i know my throat felt slit when the Saban news broke..Mack was a great coach who did a amazing job at UT but the tilte game of 09 was the downfall..he spent 4 seasons thinking if only Colt hadnt got hurt..he let the program fall flat on its face..i will in time remeber Mack for everything he done great for the program but atm i have too much anger for him..the next coach has big shoes to feel and not to mention a broken program..in time UT will rise back to a top 5 program and mack will get his statue and all this will be forgotten..had mack stayd it would have ruind his legacy and a civil war would have started...

no its not absurd...there is no coincidence that the saban news broke at the very moment mack took the stage..that was a fu to ut from saban in a big way..saban could have ended this a week earlier but this came down as soon as mack was to speak..the ut red wedding as i would call it..

He didn't block Saban. That's absurd.
There's no way to tell whether you're right or wrong. But he did block the POSSIBILITY of getting Saban by not resigning before Saban signed his extension. That is a fact.

he can walk away from the extension as easily as he could from the former contract. signing the extension did nothing but create a PR issue if he leaves.

yeah funny thing is this extension has no buyout could you imagine the pr nightmare for him if he left now>

Block might be a poor choice of words since mack doesn't know a lot about "blocking" as is evidenced by our offensive line the last few years but he certainly didn't just step aside and let the efforts underway play according to the plan.

If he didn't block any chance at Saban what would you call it? It's pretty obvious he did. I think your view is in the minority.

Does anyone know, for a fact, that he has signed this? Agreeing means jack squat (actually, so does signing without a buyout).

Saban isn't handcuffed to Alabama. He can do anything he wants, so can everybody else.

You shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet. These gossip sites are slightly more credible than the Onion.

If these sites are on par with the onion, why are you here? You're entitled to your opinion Anubis. Mack prevented any chance we had at getting Saban on campus. To suggest otherwise despite the overwhelming evidence is just ludicrously blind loyalty. To each his own though.

Too much football talk. I gotta go get caught up on world events on the Onion.

I haven't seen anywhere on the net saying he's signed it, only agreed to it which is why I think we're still in it.

He just signed an extension last Mar/Apr. Why is this latest extension so special?

Tex Ex - I actually remember basketball before the shot clock and when the only three point line was in the NBA and the ABA. I absolutely understand and respect where you're coming from. I guess being from Chicago (spent 48 years there) I've gotten immune to political gamesmanship and i guess I've learned to move on fairly quickly. Yes I would have preferred Saban and I will admit Mac and Powers played the game very well but I also think something very good will still come of this in the end.

Here's to the next HC at Texas - Hookem
