Had a little to kill so I did a little research. Which I knows shocks @Sirhornsalot, lol.

1 INT every 69.3 attempts
151.3 Passer Rating

Quinn Ewers 2023
272-394 (69.0%) for 3,479 yards
8.8 yards per attempt and 12.8 yards per completion
22 TDs versus 6 INT's (3.7 tds for every int)

Hopefully, Ewers has the kind of year next year that Penix had this year.

Penix had the game of a lifetime against us. He could do no wrong.

History has shown that it is rare for an underclassman QB to lead a team to a NC. Virtually all NC teams have a Sr+ QB. Penix is especially unusual in that he had the Covid19 bonus season to play for an unprecedented sixth year of college ball. It's no wonder he's so dialed in...more so than many NFL QBs from what I've seen. Quinn is ahead of schedule and should be even better if he decides to return next season which is what the expectation is. He's only played about a season and a half of college ball accounting for injury.

Big difference will be QE3 breaking in a lot of new WRs next year while Penix had largely the same crew.

Won’t be easy but one can hope! Our OL pass protection (looking at you right side) and QE3’s pocket awareness need to step up big.

He can’t get hurt again though we have a really really good backup (Better than 2023’s backup).

two very different types of QB, Penix may throw a rope but QE throws an easier ball for RB on the wheel route

Penix has one speed....I may not like when QE throws sidearm or even 3/4 but he has better touch

I don't recall ever seeing a QB at any level drop deep dimes like Penix did in that game. Credit to him whether it was just him being him or a fluke. Either way, it was an amazing performance.

I'm confident Quinn will continue to develop and get even better. He has a bunch of stud receivers just waiting for their opportunity.

A couple of points for conversation sake.... or not....

To further your Penix point, I believe he has spent his entire time (Indiana and Washington) in the same offense? Same OC the entire time in college. This undoubtedly helps as well.

"Quinn is ahead of schedule," What schedule? Is he ahead of schedule in QB development, or is he ahead of schedule to win a national championship while in college (getting us to the playoffs as a redshirt sophomore)? I think you mean the later... I might take a little issue with the former, based on his perfect 10.0 ranking coming out of high school, shared only by the likes of Trevor Lawrence and Vince Young...

Good posts yesterday, TXFF... compelled me to respond twice.

I went to the Alamo Bowl last year and didn't get the hype surrounding Penix. However, I've watched him several times this season, and he has looked like he did against us each time. As a matter of fact, if I were an NFL GM, I'd take him #1 overall... even over the Sooner who played for USC.

I took a look at our receiver room recently, and was actually surprised at the lack of numbers. I know we have three recruits coming in... but after looking at the room, I'm convinced that we will seek at least one more WR from the portal. It is actually really thin (especially if Mitchell declares as expected).

Afraid 2023 gor for Ewers might be anomaly as he losses all 3 we & his te.

Kalen DeBoer was his OC at Indiana.

Took a quick look at the stats for Ewers, Lawrence, and Young.

As a passer, Trevor Lawrence had a significantly better first year than Quinn Ewers did. And while Lawrence still had a better second year, the gap between the two was not as great as the first year. As a runner, Lawrence was obviously better.

As far as Vince Young, as a passer, Vince was not even in the same ball park as Quinn Ewers was in their first two years. But he did get there in his third year. As a runner, I don't even have to say it.

yes Young & Lawrence proved their rating was not over blown. There was a lot hype for Quinn.

Let's not forget QE3 got injured his junior year, reclassified and didn't play in a game for one and a half seasons.

I'm going to go there since no one has. Just a thoughts. Perhaps it is not QE playing/starting next year. Perhaps it is AM. Perhaps AM starts outright. Perhaps a QE injury. Remember Wally Pipp?

Might be best for Texas if your idea works out. Ewers seems to be injury prone and SEC teams will hit him when they can.
Then Ewers might improve in areas where he needs to and win the heisman.

The best scenario for Texas is Ewers has a seat in NY for the Heisman before their appearance in the CFP. Arch comes in the following year and brings Texas right back into the CFP.
