It's early... but losing to 1-5 Iowa state. What a rough year to be a die hard fan. Irritates the hell out of me to see what we have become.... if CS gets to stay I see season tickets sales to take a hit, recruiting to take a hit and LHN to struggle just that much more. The big 12 is in a spiral as is the longhorns. Weather people agree or not we control the big 12 and HAVE to get back on top. Hope we wake up and pull this out. Big or small we need a win.

I agree. I eat crow. But still feel somewhat the same on what I said. We should never be nervous about playing ISU! Great win though. Hope this means good things for the D

Folks, I'm going to say this once because I have a short fuse tonight.  I had to miss the entire second half due to work obligations.  I'm getting ready to watch it now, and yes, I know that we won, but I must watch it play by play.

I remember watching our great teams of 1969 and 1970 struggle with TCU and Baylor, and those were not teams filled with youth.  Neither had they been decimated by poor recruiting during a prior regime.  Nope, they were the teams of Royal, Wooster, Street, and Bertlesen.  I recall being down to TCU one time at the half, and wondering what in the devil was happening.  We came back after the half and stomped them.  I can't recall when the starters sat down.  Probably early in the fourth.

The whining at the end of the first is annoying.  If you want the team to man up, then the fans do, too.

good Lord.
Yes, in the midst of of a 30 game winning streak we had a 21-14 win over Baylor.

The ONLY other 3 wins in those 30 that were close were 68 ou, 69 ark and ND. The other 26 of 30 were by 10 or more.

In 2016, we beat ISU and covered the spread. Yippie f-ing kying oh.

But we're 3-3 and Charlie is 14-17.

Oh, please, fans shouldn't whine.  Get irritated.  Curse, if you need to.  Gripe about yards given up.  I really don't care, but for darn sure don't anyone try to tell me that's it's more embarrassing for fans than it is for the 18 and 19 year olds (for the most part) than it is for the anonymous fans in the stands to lose to anyone.  That is pure bs.

This team played mad tonight, and I don't blame them.  I would be mad, too.  They are probably angry at themselves, at the press, at the fans, and at just about everyone who has ragged mercilessly on both them and Charlie 5 games into the season.  The entitlement is not a part of the program, but it sure as hell is a part of the fanbase.  For goodness sake, Seniors have lost their 'jobs'.  Did they whine?  No!  They made the best of it.

The players probably have a bunker mentality right now.  If so, good for them.  They want their coach.  They want to give him a chance, and if they can watch extra firm by sacrificing free time voluntarily, good for them.  It's a sign of maturity.  If they 'don't have the time' to sign an autograph the next time someone stops them when they are on a date, I wouldn't blame them.  That individual may have been one of the folks blasting them on an anonymous message board, while they take their criticism with their names on the back of their jerseys.  But guess what?  I bet they sign the autograph because Charlie expects it, and he has engrained respect into them.  Just as he treats other better than they treat him.

If the team quits, and loses out, and Charlie loses his job, I understand.  But if tonight is any indication, it looks like Clay Jennings may be a big part of the problem.  The DB's looked better against OU, despite the yardage for anyone who really took the time to look, and tonight they looked much better.  Charlie took on the Coordinator job, and Vance is coaching DB's.  I wonder how many other jobs the two of them are doing?  I would bet money Charlie is still running every morning.  I hope so.  It helps control stress, and he has a lot.

Now, I'm signing off, because, as I said, I'm pissed off.  Charlie may lose his job, and he may deserve it.  That doesn't mean I'm happy about it, or that I like the way our 'fans' have behaved about the situation.  The gossip and speculation  are 'embarrassing'.  The way I look at it, if it happens, it happens, but I, personally will take no joy in it.

Herbstreit's comments on GameDay last week made me furious, and in most respects, his argument was flawed; however, the way our fans have behaved during the three recent losses and the gossip surrounding them has added fuel to the fire and made us look entitled and spoiled.  I happen to think we are better than that, aren't we?

I see all of that rant, which I agree with but had nothing to do with my post..... I wasn't intendeing to come across as "whining". Yes it's obviously tougher on the kids to lose and feel as if there letting coaches and fans down. I was stating losing hurts the program AND the big 12 tremendously. I understand football and rough patches in programs, I don't let a Texas loss ruin my week but I'd still rather be the team on top and bragging to my sooner friends how we kicked there ass.... that's just being a fan. And I'm in the boat that CS may need to go but who else is there to grab? How do we know they could do any better? I to like CS and he did show great progress in defense tonight. The Big 12 is a joke right now and Texas and OU not being at the top of the league is playing a big factor. I'm kinda talking in circles but that's all I was trying to get at.

I understand okiehorn, and I also knew, that if your handle was accurate, the ribbing you were taking after losing to OSU and OU fans was merciless.  Stand tall and tough.  It won't be long before we are kicking ass and taking names, including Sooner names.  In fact, if I remember correctly, we took more than a few Sooner names in 2014 and 2015.

I really am just sick of Texas fans sounding like first graders each time we play poorly.  If you have kids, I'm sure you have heard it,  "Mommy, Daddy, I'm not inviting so and so to my birthday party because they were mean to me."

I'm not sure how you responded to this, but my response was much like the following, "Sweetheart, if someone is your friend, they are your friend, and that doesn't change because they would not let you play with their toy today during recess."  "We aren't going to play those games."

Texas fans, too, are better than their behavior over the last few weeks.

They played better this game.  The problem with Charlie's team is one game they give 773 yards and the next they give up 280 yards.  Inconsistent.

Keep this win in perspective.  We dominated a 1-6 team.   Even the ND win is diminished now considering they are 2-5.  The hapless ags are #6 and we are still making excuses about youth and talent in year 3.  SMH

I went into this game thinking if Strong was embarrassed again, he would probably be fired by Tuesday.

I understand DMAC, but I saw better coverage and better technique.  I think that is encouraging.  I wonder who rec'd Clay Jennings to Charlie.  Our DB's have looked terrible, since he took the job--until Charlie tood over D-Cood. and Vance took over D-backs.

While I don't completely agree with your perspective, several parts make a lot of sense. The Texas fan base, and more specifically the vocal minority on websites, are in year 7 of watching the burnt orange field an average to below-average product. Winning remedies a lot of this. We haven't seen much of that, and are saddled with trying to find a bright spot week-in, week-out, and that bright spot has almost become a needle in a haystack.

I strongly support my university, and I trust the powers that be to make the right decision on this moving forward. While my hope is that we win games, my eyes and brain tell me that each week with this current team/coaching staff makes that an odds-against coin flip. I am one of the most positive, sunshine-pumping folks out there, but even I have had apathy set in regarding football. And quite frankly, it sucks.

I'll continue to wear orange, watch the games and hope for the best, but allowing what we have been provided the last several years to give me an ulcer is not worth it.

The buck starts and stops with Charlie when it comes to hiring Clay Jennings. And Charlie doesn't exactly have a stellar record when it comes to hiring assistant coaches.

I can't argue that we do have a bunch of ungrateful fans who expect bowl games, winning a lot more games than we lose, and competing for national championships. How dare they we have such high expectations!

NTG, do you know how arrogant and entitled I used to be?

I was so tired of spending New Year's Eve in Dallas, I used to hope that we would tie someone, not lose you understand, but tie, so that we could go to the Orange or Sugar Bowl.  If you check the old Southwest Conference rules, if a tie was between the prior year's champion and another team, the prior year's champion did not represent at the Cotton Bowl  Just once, I wanted to go to the Orange or Sugar.  I was an entitled brat.

So, I'm not claiming innocence.  There's a reason that I recognize the signs.
