Did the defense really save us today?

Say what you will about the much maligned Texas defense, but the past two weeks it has shown considerable, and maybe even remarkable, improvement. And thank goodness, because the play-calling in today's game could have, and should have, cost us the game.

How in the %$%$%$# do you, as a professional offensive coordinator, leave your best player ON THE %$%$#$$%$ SIDELINE in favor of Swoopes with the game, and quite frankly your season and Charlie Strong's career at UT, hanging in the balance?

I get it that Charlie has handed the reigns of the offense over to Gilbert, and it's been a vast improvement. But holy balls, Batman, Gilbert's play-calling in the past few games has been highly questionable. Who called the QB keeper by Buchelle midway through the 4th? Did Shane keep the ball himself, or was it a QB keeper all the way? And how is 33 on the sideline when Texas is facing 3rd and 2, and 4th and 1 in favor of TYRONE FREAKING SWOOPES!!! The last time I saw a boneheaded call like that was 2005 BCS Championship game when the genius Pete Carroll had Bush on the sideline on 4th and 2. I was happy then. I was pissed today.

In the end Texas won, and I realize that's all that matters. But Texas Tech is garbage and we should be a 3-touchdown better team than the tiny tot Red Raiders.

Our defense brought it today, and they are, whether people want to admit it or not, making huge strides. The tackling has been immensely better, the play of 46 has been markedly better, the play of 2 has been lights out, and Holton Hill played a nice game today. So major props to Charlie and the defense.

But crap, Gilbert ... WTF, man? Let me make this simple for you ... if 33 is upright, breathing and can put one foot in front of the other, in the words of Keyshawn Johnson ... GIVE HIM THE DAMN BALL. And Charlie, you do realize you can overrule Giblet, right?

OK, rant over. On to West Virginnie.

"And how is 33 on the sideline when Texas is facing 3rd and 2, and 4th and 1 in favor of

TYRONE FREAKING SWOOPES!!!"  I was furious at this IDIOTIC play calling. Swoopes

comes in, lines up at QB and everyone in the house, specifically everyone on defense,

knows he is going to run the ball. And he promptly gets stuffed two plays in a row. After

the game I was in a bad mood and my wife said "What's wrong, didn't Texas win?" And I

replied "Yes, but they were lucky to, considering the pisspoor calls by the coaching staff."

Why didn't we just kick the field goal and put the game out of reach? Even a pee wee football coach could figure that one out

Our kicker is schizophrenic at best. I agreed with going for it....but with Foreman getting the carry.

I was at the game. Considering the kicking issues, the weather was not our friend on a FG attempt. Wind and rain was starting to come down.

a win is a win no matter how UGLY it is. but this team has improved a lot from last year and now that the young guys have more experience the complete blown assignments have decreased to very very few. Texas needs to tackle better but effort or lack of effort that we have seen at various points since 2010 season appear to be getting fixed. the offensive play calling in 18 wheeler package needed to expand and we finally threw a pass that was wide open for TD and Perkins chop blocks for no reason. sometimes when a new play has worked try it again like on 3rd & 2 with Swoopes that would have been perfect time to pass again because tech sold out for run and if incomplete on 4th & 2 the defense will have a little more hesitation.

this west virginia game is huge because a win gets bowl game plus 3 game win streak and I`m sure Charlie will try to sell a big win at home to recruits visiting maybe Strong finally has the train headed down the right track.

At this point i will take a win no matter how it looks. It's a shame that DF didn't get a shot at the record. After all  TT had no stoped him all day. My friends y'all have a great week
