Say what you will about the much maligned Texas defense, but the past two weeks it has shown considerable, and maybe even remarkable, improvement. And thank goodness, because the play-calling in today's game could have, and should have, cost us the game.
How in the %$%$%$# do you, as a professional offensive coordinator, leave your best player ON THE %$%$#$$%$ SIDELINE in favor of Swoopes with the game, and quite frankly your season and Charlie Strong's career at UT, hanging in the balance?
I get it that Charlie has handed the reigns of the offense over to Gilbert, and it's been a vast improvement. But holy balls, Batman, Gilbert's play-calling in the past few games has been highly questionable. Who called the QB keeper by Buchelle midway through the 4th? Did Shane keep the ball himself, or was it a QB keeper all the way? And how is 33 on the sideline when Texas is facing 3rd and 2, and 4th and 1 in favor of TYRONE FREAKING SWOOPES!!! The last time I saw a boneheaded call like that was 2005 BCS Championship game when the genius Pete Carroll had Bush on the sideline on 4th and 2. I was happy then. I was pissed today.
In the end Texas won, and I realize that's all that matters. But Texas Tech is garbage and we should be a 3-touchdown better team than the tiny tot Red Raiders.
Our defense brought it today, and they are, whether people want to admit it or not, making huge strides. The tackling has been immensely better, the play of 46 has been markedly better, the play of 2 has been lights out, and Holton Hill played a nice game today. So major props to Charlie and the defense.
But crap, Gilbert ... WTF, man? Let me make this simple for you ... if 33 is upright, breathing and can put one foot in front of the other, in the words of Keyshawn Johnson ... GIVE HIM THE DAMN BALL. And Charlie, you do realize you can overrule Giblet, right?
OK, rant over. On to West Virginnie.
