Some in and around the Louisville program are very nervous right now. Surprising as it may sound, some think he will leave and take the Texas job.

Not sure if this is smoke or the real deal, but around UofL are very concerned.

Why is it surprising that he would leave Louisville for the #1 coaching job in college?

Go over to their forums. I could literally quote several times where they said "Louisville is just a good a job as Texas" or something similar. I generally like Louisville, but they have some delusional fans. (Not that we don't have our own)

Not to debate, but is it the #1 job in the country?

And it's surprising to many because they see Strong heading to Florida or Miami soon, not Texas.

Why would it be surprising that he leaves? Of course he would leave, I just hope we didn't offer.

By most accounts, its hard to find a better combination of recruiting grounds, tradition, resources, general academics, and cash in a single place in college. I think USC, Texas, and Ohio State are all pretty much on the same tier. Who you choose as #1 depends on where you live, more than likely.

Like I mentioned about, and it's nothing against Texas... but many around the program and in his circle expect him to head south. They are ready for that, not Texas.

How do you feel about Strong replacing Muschamp at Florida? Personally, I think he would do well at Florida. If he would do well at Florida, why wouldn't he do well at Texas?

I hate to say it but having a black coach is important with Sumlin at Texas. If you can't land Saban, it may be the next overwhelming criteria and there are not a lot of top black coaches that fit the bill right now. Strong is one.

Plus, the Big 12 is so weak, we need a strong Baylor team. Poaching their coach would weaken an already weak conference. They are not going to get another coach like Briles and will fall back to the bottom of the barrel very quickly.

I agree... I look at it like this. If Texas is the #1 job in the land, everyone would want it, and you'll land Saban.

That's what I'm saying. Texas came as a total shock... Florida or even Miami, nope.

This is not necessarily true. Saban has been at Bama for a long time (especially for him) and has laid roots there. Now if a coach is ambitious and is openly looking for the best job there is, and is not fettered with family desires, then Texas would be the choice.

I hope we see Strong at Florida after they fire Muschamp next year. I don't want him here.

I would really like to see Will succeed. But, I guess we wait and see how it plays out. Hope the best for both.

Posted this in other thread but yet to have a response to why people don't want him. I think strong would be a great hire. He's semi young. Has developed great defenses and players.... See that again DEVELOPED. He has toughness (we all know is needed). He's an X's and O's guy. Another thing that I hate is even a factor is that he is black. That could be huge in recruiting and whether you want to admit it or not it's helped a&m. Also in recruiting, offensive players come dime a dozen. Who is the last good defensive player we had that has really been great and played up to recruiting status (jeffcoat). You could make case for Malcolm brown but he didn't really progress as much as hopes. Hell ashawn Robinson was probably better for Alabama. Recruits will want to play for him. I really want to hear why people don't want him. I understand Texas ties helps briles, but what big game has he won?!? Strong one a bcs game against a damn good Florida team. Strong had his boys ready for the most recent bowl game.

I don't want WM to fail either. But have you seen the mass defections that he's having this offseason? I love his hire for OC, but I don't think it's going to be enough. If they struggle next year he's gone and they still don't have a QB. He better hope his defense is able to play at a top notch level for the entire season.
