Cecil Cherry Update

I checked in with 2015 LB Cecil Cherry (Victory Christian Academy, Lakeland, FL) tonight to see if there were any new developments with him....
First, he is still a verbal commit to Tennessee (he committed to the Vols back in June).  I asked him if he would be announcing his decision prior to National Signing Day and he said no - he plans to announce on February 4th.

It's no secret that he enjoyed his visit to Austin last month and Texas is high on his list.  We reported last month that Texas was his #1 school and as of tonight it still is:

I asked Cherry where Texas stands today with him/his recruitment and his response:  "They are my top one."

The state of Florida could be Charlie Strong's recruiting gold mine.

I commend the kid for sticking to his original commit, but of course, I think he'd look much better in real Burnt Orange and not that stuff they have going on in Knoxville with checkerboards and funny orange.

Come on down to Austin, Cecil.  We'd love to have ya.

It is a confusing situation, to be sure. We're on top, the top school. But he remains committed to another.

It's like sticking with an old girlfriend right up to wedding day with your wife.

Maybe he wants sister wives¿¿¿

He definitely looks like he dines on QBs and small platoons of WRs. Looks tough.
As a (formerly terrible) OL in high school - Cecil Cherry would have scared the ever-loving crap out of me had he been lined up across from me.  He plays mean as hell, puts everything into every hit, and looks just like I'd want my LB to look out on the field.

I really hope this Cherry to Texas thing happens.  I think he is exactly the type of guy Coach Strong wants out there in the middle of his defense.

That's a bad man right there. Looking forward to seeing him scare the crap out of the other teams.

Contractor,

Thanks for the article.  I loved CC before, now I want him at Texas even more.  I want him to have all of the advantages that Charlie Strong offers players, which includes the opportunity to live a productive life after football, whenever that occurs.  Strong will help him become the player and the man he aspires to be.

Hook 'em!

Thank you, HornEsch.  I want these guys to be successful in life.  It's obvious that Strong does.  I'm not so sure that many other coaches are concerned about that.

Hook 'em, Esch!  How are you doing?
