Bev Kearney files lawsuit against Texas

Former coach Kearney filing lawsuit against UT - Longhorns
Calls out Major specifically. I know we expected this - some of us before the new AD hire/announcement - but this could be the first domino that falls in a series of changes within the athletic department(s).
It will give Patterson an excuse for clearing out Dodd's sycophants in Bellmont. I hope we don't cave and pay her off. She's got nothing.

Call me nuts but I still find it hard to believe that this will ever go to trial. Although UT might dispute some of the facts I just don't think at the end of the day they will want the kind of increased publicity that a trial will bring.

This will be one of the dominos to get Chris Plonsky out of her position or reason to "consolidate" that spot under Steve Patterson and have her as a "underling"

I was just thinking that it would make getting rid of her a lot easier now that it's "official".

If the BOR is willing to let it go to discovery, you have to assume they are willing to let it go to trial. You would have to think the BOR knows the worst that can be brought out and they aren't overly concerned. Kearney's atty will file discovery requests. University attys will object and then we will see how much fishing the judge is willing to allow and what it looks like might be admissible during any trial. Right now, it doesn't seem the BOR is too concerned about this. If the matter with Major is the best she has, it isn't much to be concerned about.

And Major wasn't fooling around with the trainer as long as Kearney was doing a direct student-athlete. Ol' Freak Nasty might be the better stone to cast.

I'd rather Karen Aston work directly for a basketball guy like Patterson anyway.

Its been said something like this would be the cause of Powers finally having to walk the plank. Maybe that is their end game? If its been such a battle for the Perry four to get the job done, $1M would be cost effective to get the job done right?

Lawsuits like this are never filed without a genuine desire to proceed to trial when necessary.

Settlement is routine after a few rounds of legal work for lawyers to register enough hours to make their representation worthwhile. It's also more economical for the school.

Have heard Kearney's attorney's spouse is friends with Powers and why this was delayed to help Perry with the BOR appointees from Perry

Id heard that as well, but the rumor was still "one more thing" would flip the switch. Then again, its not like Wallace Hall is in a striking position right now...

Patterson may not have to make any monstrous changes. Some will take care of themselves.
