before I leave for the day

games are different than recruiting days. the only one that, to me, compares to today is Simms switch to the real UT.

Yes, A GREAT day indeed.  This day may have been a catalyst to bring recruits on the bubble to UT and perhaps help the staff unhook a few that already committed elsewhere.

Stay tuned, the CFS Recruiting Road Show ain't over!!

Yes Jim, that turned out just fine. UT Was graced by a fine young man that handled a difficult situation to the best of his abilities with the talent and tools available to him at the time. I spent soom time with him after a Texans playoff game and came away impressed with the man he turned out to be. He had such great things to say about his time at UT.

I posted this in another thread but maybe it's best here after what went down yesterday and what I feel will happen in the next few days as well.....

What a day......

I had to come check just one last time. Think what that means and where we have come from am expecting fan base in just a few days.

Maybe this STAFF deserves our patience just a little bit more than we have been allowing them. They have stuck to their principles and rested on those principles to win in the end. I have found in life they always do(relying on principles.) We are just enjoying the fruits of their good work earlier than We expected. Not them, their hard work has put them in a position to have expected it.

THAT is what has impressed me beyond belief. They expected this. Not necessarily the specific commitments from the specific recruits but they went into this process totally sold on what Coach Strong stands for, his Core Values, the decision to rid the program of untenable Cancers, the choice to just do the things the right way etc. They were on board from the start. It was we that had been hanging by a rope while teetering over the Stern.

Thank God we weren't given the rudder.

Let's not just enjoy this but apply it. I'm old but, heck, I'd point this situation out to some young manager struggling with a team building concept or something. It applies across all landscapes. You do the right thing and it comes back to you, and it comes back to you, and it keeps coming back to you. It always does.

Sorry if this sounds a little preachy but I've really been just talking to myself, I needed to hear it. I've grabbed the rope swung on board and let the guys that know the stars, sail the ship.

If you think about it, Simms was the white equivalent to Swoops.  Both great kids, intelligent and with unique and God given tools for being a QB.

Unfortunately, both of them were/are very immature and were/are unable to adapt to big time college football at a school like Texas.

I think both would have been better served to play at schools like Sam Houston, S.F. Austin and maybe UTSA.  Where they wouldn't be under such a pressure packed microscope and would have time to grow up without have their confidence crushed.

i thought about it and see no similarity between the 2.

we tend to focus on what Simms wasn't instead of what he was. as a SR he threw for 26 tds and 3200 yards. we went 11-2 and finished #6. I'll go out on a limb and say Swoopes never sniffs numbers like that.

Agree, and don't forget Simms is left handed and Swoopes is right handed. Completely different.

Simms was a polished passer, but also had a stable of quality WRs to throw to. Swoopes needs to develop but was running for his life most of this season behind a limited OL and a raw WR group.

Agree and I'd take Simms over Swoopes in a heartbeat. Swoopes has a lot of tools but lacks the attitude to be a leader.

I'm sorry Jim, but I just don't think I can fully celebrate yesterday without a Keep Calm picture.  Got any of these laying around?
