So Horn sports what are your thoughts? I think that given preseason expectations, Rick Barnes did the best coaching job. Yes, Bill Self won 10 straight Big 12 titles but at this point, he is expected to do that. Texas was picked 8th in the preseason poll and finished 3rd. So in that sense, he deserves it. Jonathan Holmes getting Big 12 2nd team honors is great but Cameron Ridley getting completely snubbed and only getting Honorable mention is a travesty. He deserved more recognition.

Ha!!!!

Beat you to it by 3 minutes. . . .

And I'll say here .. . .anyone else's first thought .. . .."nice parting gift"?

No parting gift.

I believe Barnes has earned himself at least one more year. He and the staff did a helluva job this season. Myles Turner's decision probably hinges on UT's coaching situation and stability, too.

I don't see him leaving or getting fired. Like it or not, basketball isn't held at the same high standard as football. Barnes can get away with a few subpar season, especially considering that this team has FAR exceeded expectations.

Yep, Barnes deserves another year. If he doesn't make an elite 8 next year though, I can understand making the move. Barnes did a hell of a job with a very young team this year.

Deserves it for this year as I only had Texas at 10-12 wins. But his post season record sucks dating back to Providence and Clemson.

I had prepared myself mentally for a losing season prior to the season getting underway, I won't lie. This season was nothing short of spectacular by Barnes and the players. The road woes hurt us but I am excited about the upcoming tournaments. Hats-off to Rick for a job well done.

I'll be very surprised if we win more than two games total in the B12 and NCAA tournaments. Same story, another chapter. Believe that would be six years of not getting past the second round of the NCAA tournament.

I don't see how you fire a coach who just won coach of the year.

i want to see how he can finish out this year and then what he can do next year with this young team.

i think the jury's still out on whether he leaves or not. we've still got the tournament to play. if he somehow gets to the sweet 16, he won't leave. win one, then lose--maybe. one and done, they'll look around.

i thought barnes should have been fired after last season. but since he wasn't, is sitting on at least 22 wins and has a COY trophy on its way i don't think there's any way he gets let go.
