Bama gives Saban a substantial raise

Why is nobody else outside of SB Nation reporting about this supposed raise?

This blog report came out mid-morning. I haven't even seen it discussed on any of the message boards I frequent.

Curious.

Raise happened before the season started it seems so it might not be connected at all to recent talks

The CBS reports he cites don't say anything about Saban getting a raise. They just state that Sexton isn't using Texas's interest as a tool for a raise. I'm thinking this guy is speaking out of his backside.

He doesn't give any source for his assertion that Saban and the entire staff got a raise. This happened last April/May, so it's probably a pat on the back for, yet another MNC. But those kind of deals

usually go with a contract extension. It seems strange that we haven't heard anything about this.

I don't believe this report adds up. Nick Saban didn't use it as leverage because the Texas job wasn't open. Hicks talked to Mack and he decided to come back in 2013.

Also, I don't think Saban is interested in a bidding war. If he comes to Texas, it will be for a new challenge and all the behind the scenes business deals that dwarf his job salary.

I think Texas has always been a job that he's been infatuated with ... just his actions over the years pertaining to the talent hereand school.

BTW, despite the ongoing negations and vetted process, I still don't think he leaves when it is all said and done. I just don't think he will pull the trigger and the timing is bad. We will see. I do truly believe he is very interested. I've seen the forwarded emails, so I know that is the case. These reports are not made up. I know that for a fact.

This was pretty poorly written and awfully vague. Sounds like a classic "I want to drive traffic" post.

If Mack Brown is making 5.4 million a year just to struggle against losers like West Virginia and to get routed by also-runs like Ole Miss and BYU (I don't know how much their coaches are making but I believe it's under 750k), Saban should be making at least 3 times the amount. So Alabama may either pay Saban 16.2 million a year, or sue Texas in court to reduce Mack's racketeering paycheck from $5.4 million a year to under $54,000 a year.

Please don't hijack my thread and turn it in to another "FIREMACKBROWN" thread.

OK. I know I started this thread (my bad) but I'm calling this "report" bullsh!t. After doing a little research on the backstory, I don't believe there was a raise last spring. I think Adam Jacobi either inadvertently or

accidentally (Oops!) confused Spring of '13 with Spring of '12 when Saban, and his staff, did get a raise (with extension).

Jacobi got fired from CBSSports.com for reporting Paterno's death a day early, last January.

Fortunately for him, I don't think it's possible to get fired from SB Nation.

Apparently suggesting a reduction of Mack Brown's 5.4 million paycheck constitutes an unacceptable "hijacking" of "your thread" into a "Fire Mack Brown thread".

So how much do you think Texas should be paying Mack (given his regular blow-out losses), and how much longer should Texas keep him?

I can help you set up your own "support Mack Brown" website, and teach you web design and programming for only $54,000. I'm sure that's a very reasonable price considering it's a pay that you equate to firing for Mack Brown. Web site up in a week, plus 2 hours of private tutoring on web programming per week for 6 months.

What about this question of yours: "Any idea how this effects the Saban-to-Texas scenario?"
