I am posting this because I think it will have a significant impact on Texas' decision to join a conference - namely the ACC. Pitt and the 'Cuse are excellent basketball schools (with sometimes decent football programs) and would fit nicely into the ACC North. The ACC school reps met recently and INCREASED the opt-out fee for leaving the ACC from 12ish million to 20 million. Clearly this conference and its schools want to keep the ACC intact and viable for an expansion.
The Texas and OU Board of Regents meet Monday to discuss options and determine if a conference move for each school, respectively, would be prudent.
My opinion is that Texas needs to jump on the ACC as soon as possible. There is no other conference that will offer the possibilities that the ACC does. Realignment is happening QUICK and often and I feel like Texas needs to move or else find itself in an independent status, which is NOT the best option for Texas.
My worry is that if Texas waits it out too long, they will have nowhere to go (primarily because of the LHN). The ACC is a respectable conference with good academics as a whole and Texas should be able to keep its network.
