Procrastinating doing some work before I get dressed for the Marine Corps Ball tonight . .. .

Wanted to share a 10 year old story. . . Kansas would be Michelle's 1st TEXAS game in person and what a day it turned into. . . . 2005 .. some of you might recall. . .pretty good season we had going on. . . Friend of mine (North Dallas 40) scored us an upgrade to 50 yard line tickets about 20 rows up .. .this after DNDavis (a former walkon for DKR and all around great Texan) got us into the game

It was also our Armed Forces game, celebrating our veterans and military members. . .Mack Brown was great about honoring them. Arhmad Hall had served in Afghanistan with my brother and was the Captain of the game. Pre-Game had a chance to meet and visit with his Mom. What a nice lady.

The real highlight though was getting to meet Frank Denius. Many of you don't know this story but it is a great one and he is an outstanding alumni. . . .

Frank Denius landed on Normandy beach June 6th 1944 as a buck private and would cross the Rhine into Germany a year later as a 1st Lt. He would also become the 2nd most decorated serviceman in American history. . .2nd only to another Texan. . Audie Murphy. In fact the only award Mr Denius would not receive would be a Congressional Medal of Honor.

He would return to TEXAS, finish his degree, become a highly successful lawyer and donate enough money his name was dedicated to our field. He would also not miss a TEXAS football game, at home or on the road until 2004 (think that was the year) when the Congressional Medal of Honor Society would bestow upon him their highest civilian honor.

Of course he didn't share any of this, he is far too gracious and far too humble . ..

Needless to say, Michelle was pretty impressed. .. at halftime I took her to the very top of the west side of the stadium to see the sun set over Austin. . . it had been overcast most of the game but broke enough that it was one of those memorable sights.
