    A free read . . . .

Just passing this along to any that might have missed it . . . . http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...tants/7258411/

    Is this Augie's swan song?

Dropping 2 of 3 to Kansas to open B12 play at the Disch no less. Is Garrido good as gone? If so, who to replace? I like the guy at LSU.

    Happy Birrthday Texas!

Just wanted to offer a hearty birthday greeting to the greatest state in the union! Thems that were born here and other that got here as soon as possible. Native born and transplants alike, aren't you damn proud to be a Texan? Have a blessed day one and all!

    Bob Shipley still on staff?

Thought I'd read that Bob Shipley was retained by Strong after letting Patrick Suddes go. I see nothing on the Texas website that indicates he's still working on the 40. Just curious. I've met him and think he's a good guy. I figure if he's no longer on staff here, he may land a head coaching...

Is Charlie going on the circuit?

Anyone know if Strong is going to be making the rounds on the Exes circuit before spring ball starts? I know Mack barnstormed following the 1998 recruiting season and made all the stops from Dallas, San Antoinio, Houston, Tyler, Longview and all points in between.

Kudos to Chuck for closing "Strong"!

With Texas landing two great OOS signings in Chris Nelson and Poona Ford, the Horns should be sitting pretty in the top 15. I think that's pretty darn good, considering Strong has only been on the job just a month. Give him a full calendar to recruit and it could be much, much better. FWIW

    How many players to NBA?

I see where Barnes has the Horns all the way to No. 15! I don't think anyone could have predicted that. Hopefully they'll continue to surprise and make a good showing in the NCAA tourney. For those that follow the hoops team with great regularity, how many do you expect to move into the NBA...

Keeping my fingers crossed we land Brewster

I hope the rumblings of earlier in the week come to fruition. Here's a good read on Brewster from a Florida blogger. :) http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/seminolepost/2014/01/30/florida-state-assistant-tim-brewster-being-praised-for-his-recruiting-skills/

    College football ranks 3rd?

According to a story published by Fox Sports the NFL still rates number one among fans sports. The NFL, which has polled first for three decades, is comfortably ahead of MLB, which used to be top dog for many years. Our beloved CFB is a solid 3rd. I think the % broke something like NFL 30%, MLB...

We still have a player personnel director?

Did anyone fill Patrick Suddes' position? I looked on the website and couldn't find anyone listed as support staff for football. I couldn't find Bob Shipley's name and or email address listed. Just curious to know if we'll even have a personnel department or not. :)

Bedford & Koening to see history made a 2nd time!

Seeing as it's MLK day, thought of an interesting fact. Newly hired DC Vance Bedford & WR coach Les Koening will be a part of cultural history when Charlie Strong debuts in August against UNT as the first black head coach in the 124 year history of Texas football. It may be a touch of...

Can one of the more seasoned citizens recant DKR's exit?

I was only 10 when DKR set his bucket down. I was at the game with Arkansas that evening, but I don't remember a lot of the details. Was Royal forced to step aside or was it his choice? I know him and Frank Erwin were not good friends. Can someone take us back to yesterday and share what they...

    Did we lose a 2 for 1?

Funny I haven't seen anything from longtime publicist Bill Little on the Strong hire. I figured he would have had a welcome to town column or something along those lines. Maybe he exited stage left with Mack? Interesting.

Any idea of when spring drills begin?

Mack was usually one of the first to open spring ball in late February. Is Chuck going to keep with that schedule or do we have a new start date? Just curious.

Reckon it's sunk in for Chuck?

On the job for not even a full week and Chuck has his every move dissected. He has plenty of suggestions from all us fans that's for certain. You think he's thought at some point this week, damn I'm not in Louisville anymore. He probably made staff hires at the Ville with hardly a whimper from...

    86 percent show Strong support

Just perusing a few polls on other websites it appears the Longhorn Nation is overwhelming going to support Charlie Strong. The breakdown was 54% were simply ecstatic with the selection and see nothing but a bright future on the 40. There's the 32% group that was either unmoved and or...

We appear to have a fractured fan base right now

Not trying to stir, just observing. We have a lot of people angry with the pending Charlie Strong selection. Some believe it's an affirmative action hire. I don't honestly think that's the case. But I respect the one's that have that opinion. Then in the other corner are those that are ecstatic...

    Couple of things . . . .

Franklin is set to interview for Penn State Sunday. Please, please take him Happy Valley. Also, found it strange that Finebaum just tweeted that Saban, Fisher and Strong were the three most likely. I found it odd that he didn't issue a smart ass retort regarding Saban. FWIW

    Be ready to be underwhelmed . . . . .

All indications are now pointing to an very underwhelming hire for the Texas post. It has a touch of Nashville tied to it. :(
