You know, there is a legitimate phenomenon of Mormon science fiction. There is a whole genre of science fiction that appeals pretty much to Mormons alone. Apparently there is something about the religious teachings that makes them especially receptive to science fiction. Orson Scott Card is a notable example of this tradition crossing over into the mainstream where a good case could be made that his "Ender", series, "Alvin Maker" series and numerous others of his prolific output of books are more a part of mainstream science fiction than of the Mormon specific science fiction phenomenon.
Nothing of what I am saying up to this point should be misconstrued as my being critical of our Mormon friends ... but I gotta say that there is something very creepy about any "Aggie tradition regarding science fiction, fantasy fiction, and fantasy role playing". And, please, do not even begin trying to explain to me what this thing "AggieCon" is! The term just makes me shiver!
