Saturday practice notes from OTF.
– Play of the day was a Manning pass that was wobbly and off-mark but Cam Coleman made a super human play and came down with it.
– D Williams and McDonald played 1st team safeties. Kobe Black and Jonah Williams are second team.
– Zina is making people smile coming off the edge. His speed coming to the QB is quite noticeable.
– Andre Cojoe played a lot of LG Saturday. Flood is giving everyone a shot at LG. Chatman, Sikorski, Coleman and Cojoe. All are playing well enough right now to start.
– Kosi Okpala will be the first freshman off the bench at LB. Kind of surprising with 5-star Atkinson in the mix. Okpala looks like he's the most ready to play of the three frosh LBs.
– Locket is quietly having an outstanding camp. He will play this season. Heads above where he was at last year.
– Freshman Bishop and Stewart had great practices.
– Player intensity, compared to last year, is night and day. Especially defensively
– Interesting battle brewing between Kade Phillips and Warren Roberson at CB. Roberson is by far the most physical DB we have. Muschamp likes that.
– Justiss Terry looks like he's going to fulfill the promise he showed in HS. Guy is ripped and is creating chaos in the middle every play.

A small portion of OTF's practice notes from Saturday night's practice . . .
– Arch is making faster reads and check downs. He is having to run the ball and throw on the run less as a result.
– Siani is easily the meanest OL we have. Nasty.
– Justin Cryer looks to be edging out TyAnthony Smith, at least for now. Cryer brings stability which allows Biles more freedom to do his thing.
– Jelani McDonald and Derrick Williams are running first team right now. Running with the twos are Kobi Black, Jonah Williams and also Toray Davis. There's a gap between the 1 and 2s right now.
– Justis Terry is the most disruptive DL we have. Also, there were times when Zina, Lance Jackson and Colin Simmons were on the field at the same time. Add Terry to that mix and thats quite a pass rush. Somebody's going to be charged with assault and bodily harm. lol
– Biles had a sack on Arch.
– DBs are playing much tighter coverage than we were under PK.
– Freshman Kohen Brown is getting a lot of deep balls thrown to him. Staff is intrigued with his speed.
– Jackson Christian has really put on the size and is giving Roberson a real battle for the center spot. Word is Christian is much bigger and more imposing than Roberson.
– Lacey owns the #2 QB spot. He's a smooth operator, doesn't make mistakes.

Observations from a poster on another site who is seeing the practices:
I liked our IDL co-starters and depth (Kanu, Geffrard, January, Watson, Charles and Sharma). Now add a healthy Justus Terry being disruptive. This elevates my expectations for our IDL.
I really liked our DE/Edge starters and depth (Simmons, Jackson, Spence, Zina, Vasek, Orogbo). Now add Terry at big end, Wesley at either spot and Okpala at Edge. Love the talent, versatility and depth to mix and match.
The DL is our strength.
Expecting Biles to be disruptive. Spence is probably not talked about enough. Good combo of versatility with Cryer and Smith. Hoping when the pads come on, we hear more good things about LB. With 5 to play 5, might as well challenge Atkinson, Cummings and Okpala, maybe they can contribute ahead of schedule.
Mascoe is proven at CB/NB. Littleton sets a nice floor for a true sophomore at NB/CB. We don't move Kobe Black to Safety if we don't like Phillips and Roberson at CB. I feel good with these 4 to play CB and/or NB. Mathews may not be in line for heavy snaps this year but he looks like a good CB for what we want to do. In case of emergency, break glass and we have Black back to CB. Mack can backup NB or CB. Filsaime rounds out the competing depth at NB. Meredith and Hayward can focus on development in fall camp. CB/NB is talented, versatile and deep.
Gideon is back. McDonald is a star. D Williams and Black form a complementary duo to compete for the open position, division of snaps may be situational or opponent based. If Jonah Williams can stay healthy, he may get a real chance. JJR can be our in the box safety enforcer. Filsaime can move back to play safety if necessary. Davis, Hicks and Riley can focus more on development. This is the area of the defense that needs to be solidified.
I will be surprised if our defense is not good. To be great or elite we need our LBs and DBs to take the next steps.
I am in more of a wait and see mode for our offense.
Can we run block well enough? Can we pass block as a cohesive unit? Can we better avoid penalties? If we do these things consistently, we begin to unlock our potential as an offense.
