Texas legacy, Westlake IOL Jackson Cook commits to the Longhorns
The Texas Longhorns have landed a commitment from Austin Westlake three-star interior offensive lineman
Jackson Cook.
A Texas legacy, Cook's stepfather
Matt Trissel played running back for the Longhorns from 1999-2002 and the burnt orange won out over 24 other programs that extended offers.
At 6-foot-2.5, 290 pounds, Cook is currently ranked as the No. 67 interior offensive lineman in the nation and the No. 134 overall prospect in the state of Texas according to 247Sports.
The Longhorns have had the local prospect on the radar for years and hosted Cook for a spring visit, a camp, and a Junior Day before he returned for another practice on March 13 where he picked up his long awaited Texas offer on his 18th birthday.
Texas led the whole way from there and Cook has now shut it down in favor of the Longhorns and is expected to cancel previously scheduled official visits to Duke, SMU, and Arkansas. An interior offensive line prospect, expect Cook to play center or guard for the Longhorns.
Cook originally attended Lago Vista before transferring to Westlake ahead of his junior season. He's the first Westlake Chap to land an offer from the Longhorns since
Colton Vasek,
Jaden Greathouse, and
TJ Shanahan in the 2023 cycle, and he's the first Westlake product to commit to Texas since Vasek and walk-on
Bryce Chambers, who was also part of Texas' 2023 recruiting class.
Cook joins
Connor Robertson as the second Westlake offensive lineman Texas has landed in the
Steve Sarkisian era, and the fifth scholarship player Texas has signed out of Westlake in the Sarkisian era joining
Michael Taaffe (signed as a walk-on but was eventually placed on scholarship),
Ethan Burke, Robertson, and Vasek.
The Texas legacy has a multisport background and was on Lago Vista's varsity basketball team as a freshman and sophomore before dropping hoops once he transferred to Westlake ahead of his junior season. Cook also competes in wrestling and track and field and has PRs of 47 in the shot put and 144-1 in the discus.
With today's pledge, Cook is now the first offensive line prospect to commit to
Kyle Flood and the Longhorns in the 2027 recruiting cycle.
Cook was previously highlighted by 247Sports National Scouting Analyst Gabe Brooks as a standout performer at the 2025 National Combine in San Antonio:
"Cook played outside during 1-on-1 reps and won almost everyone we watched. He displayed consistent leverage and bend, plus lateral range to stay in front of opposing rushers even after secondary counters. The Lago Vista (Texas) High talent also plays basketball and eclipsed 130 feet in the discus in the spring 2024, so he possesses the desired multisport athletic background that should foster his development in the coming years."
At 6-foot-2.5, 290 pounds, Cook is currently ranked as the No. 67 interior offensive lineman in the nation and the No. 134 overall prospect in the state of Texas according to 247Sports.
