Contracts seem like the only option for sanity at this point.Sankey calls for 1 time transfer rule.
As a fan I would love to see this, but if an athlete can't test his value on the open market , then schools will tend to pay athletes less, which may not be fair or legal.

Isn't this how it is now without the contracts? The player thinks they can get more money and opts out (hits the portal). Fair market value is subjective. I'm sure the player always think they are worth more.Contracts may be good, although how that would work is unclear. Currently all deals appear to be year to year, where either side can decide to move on.
Are you proposing that both the schools and the athletes would sign binding multi year contracts? After the first year the contract may look bad for the athletes or the schools depending on the athletes performance.
I'm not sure what's legal and practical, but maybe they could lock players into multi year contracts, but have a process that would exist to determine a player's fair market value. If a school wasn't willing to pay that amount, then the athlete could transfer.
Wow. The NCAA is trying to grow a spine, at least for not obeying the 2 week portal window.
"Among the potential NCAA-proposed penalties include a six-game suspension for the violating team’s head coach, to include administrative, recruiting and on-field coaching duties, a multi-million dollar fine equal to 20% of the team’s football budget as well as a reduction in roster spots."
I watched the documentary. I have another take. This is all on Jerry and his ego. He is owner and the official GM, although it was Jimmy who built the team and made the trade..Jimmy did such a good job that a wishbone coach could sit back and let his coordinators win a Super Bowl. Jerry made the Cowboys a huge marketing brand, but their culture is not about championships. It is about the BRAND. I have other takes, but I don't want to ruin it for others. It is a very interesting documentary.I'll put this here since we don't have an NFL thread.
If you're a disenchanted or disgruntled Cowboy's fan or you actually still foam at the mouth for them. Watch the NETFLIX series about them. It's called "America's Team: The Gambler And His Cowboys". You might see things in a different light. Spoiler. Jerry isn't the only one to blame for their demise.
Definitely worth the watch.
My take is very similar. Without Jimmy, the Boys wouldn't have been successful. Without Jerry, the Boys would be MORE successful.I watched the documentary. I have another take. There are other takes, but I don't want to ruin it for others.
Jimmy admitted he was an ass at that time and couldn't share the limelight. As with any business the owner will take some of the success that others were responsible for. Jimmy knew that, but couldn't help himself. He admitted as much in the last episode.I watched the documentary. I have another take. This is all on Jerry and his ego. I get that, but Jerry wasn't the only problem as admitted by Jimmy. My take is very similar. Without Jimmy, the Boys wouldn't have been successful. Without Jerry, the Boys would be MORE successful.
