BOWL GAME: Texas vs Michigan

The CFP has basically killed the non-participating bowls. They've become glorified scrimmages.

I don't understand why players feel differently about the bowl vs the playoffs. In both cases it's a final opportunity to play for your school, get extra exposure, with the down side of potential injury.

I understand a potential natty is a bigger deal then a cheez it citrus bowl championship, and I understand that players view it more as optional, but I don't like it or completely understand why. Personally I think any players opting out should lose a significant amount of NIL.

At any rate, as you say, the opt outs have turned into little more then a glorified scrimmage with a nice goody bag.

I dont maintain spreadsheets or databases anymore for inconsequential things such as sports. But, it's still interesting which players will not participate and which ones will.

Those are just some starters on defense.
So, without putting too much thought into it because it can change any minute, in addition to those listed above, I'm looking at...

QB Trey Owens (TR)
RBs CJ Baxter, Jerrick Gibson, & Rickey Stewart (TR)
WRs Aaron Butler (TR), Trey Moore (??) & Neblitt (NFL?)
IOL Conner Stroh (TR)
K Will Stone (TR)
DE Moore (NFL) & Burke (NFL)
DT Melvin Hills (TR)
LB Anthony Hill (NFL) & Liona Lefau (TR)
CB Muhammad (NFL) & Guilbeau (NFL)
DBs Santana Wilson (TR), Wardell Mack (TR), & Derek Williams (TR)
S Taafe (NFL)

... and several more I'm sure.

TE Endries, apparently decided to play the game, then make a decision afterwards

It looks like there will be a LOT of young players on the field for the Citrus bowl and that's not necessarily a bad thing as long as the focus is to win

List of Mich draft eligible players. Not many are high draft picks so those that have eligibility left might not opt out.

Mich players projected draft.png

This list is only draft eligible players. I cant find any list that show Mich players that have actually declared for the draft. Here is some info about the above players

RB Justice Hays (Jr/TR) undecided
LB Derrick Moore (Sr) #1SLB
LB Jaishawn Barham (Sr/TR) #1RLB
CB Jyaire Hill (So/RS) #1RCB
FB/TE Max Bredeson (GR)
DL Rayshaun Benny (GR) #1DE
S Zeke Berry (Jr/RS) #1LCB
K Dominic Zvada (Sr/TR) #1PK

According to the 247 portal list, Mich only has four players that have declared for the portal so far but according to Ourlads, Jadyn Davis is the only one on the 3-deep depth chart

LS Evan Boutorwick (Jr)
OT Connor Jones (Jr)
WR Fredrick Moore (Jr)
QB Jadyn Davis (FR) #2QB

The same thing happened in basketball. If a dollar is to be made they'll add more teams. How many teams are in the basketball tourney?

when the tourney was 32 teams, it was great. If they cant find championship caliber teams in the top 32, then there is something seriously wrong with the system, and it aint in the quantity of teams.
As stated in the video, the unintended (or maybe intended) consequence was the NCAA DESTROYED all other post season games (tournaments). When Texas won the NIT in the '70s, it was still a meaningful championship because there were some VERY good teams that didnt make the field of 32 for the NCAA tourney. Today, the NIT is barely worth attending or watching as the NCAA takes the top 60-something teams

Rumor on 247 is that WR Niblett is going pro according to his mother. If so he is probably not going to participate in the bowl game so I added his name to the list above with a "?".

Eric Henry: we're checking with sources to see whether or not he's at practice

Mother's posting...
Nesbitt mother posting (dec 2025).webp

Abe Lemmons run in the NIT was one of my favorite basketball memories. I loved that team!!

Is there a draftable market for exclusively Special Teams player?

From Burton at OTF: "I am told if Endries opts to go pro, he will not play in the bowl game.

He has been practicing with the team."
