Longhorn News/Discussion (Non-Recruiting)

To play devil's advocate, didn't Ohio State just lose a bunch of upperclassmen especially on their D-Line, O-Line, quarterback and running backs? Yet they've managed to meet or exceed their preseason expectations.....
I'll bet their position coaches didn't lobby for no portal additions.

From most people’s eyes going into the season, Texas had probably the 3rd or 4th most talented roster in the country. Georgia and Ohio State are very young in many areas too.

A lot of things didn’t go right last offseason including development, talent evaluation and coaching. Complacency? Maybe. Listening to the pundits and polls? Probably.

The biggest issue is players not improving much during the season outside of Arch.
Agree.

I'd say a close second is "shoot yourself in the foot penalties." And this isn't just this years team. Last year we ranked 120 for penalties. This year we are second to last in all of D1. I bet we set a world record on 3rd / 4th and 1 illegal procedure penalties. I also bet we set a world record for illegal procedure penalties on our punt team. The former are drive killers. The later are comedic.

I don't know what the fix is for this? But it is on the coaches. Mike Leach once said "You're either coaching it, or allowing it." I think that applies here.

aggie troll comment.

If there is to be competition at the QB it will be Manning, Lacey, and Bell.

Clear? Or just how much aggie are you? Besides a true Longhorn bleeds burnt orange and white and not just orange & white.
aggy cult comment. Having different opinions isnt trolling.

We'll probably see Lacey hit the portal, assuming Arch is back next season. Bell takes over in 2027.

If the growing pains persist for Arch...yes, I'd rather bring in a seasoned QB to fill in before Bell hits the field.

I would rather bring in an up and coming WR and a seasoned olineman or two. You seem to have forgotten the trouble at these two positions this year.

Thats fair. As long as it gets fixed. Im not advocating to push out Arch, but we cant stay stuck with inexperienced options only. Sark is too far into his tenure here for that to happen.

O line is priority one. I believe we'll be okay at QB and WR.

Amazing how clueless we were...we all knew Campbell was a penalty waiting to be called every play....but we all thought he was gonna be great....we all knew Majors was smart as hell and very experienced
...but we were glad to see him gone for an upgrade...we knew Wingo really was not "all that" last year, but we all expected him to show out this year....we all saw that Manning could not understand Quinn last year but we expected him to win a Heisman this year. Damned if we are not easy to fool...

To be fair, you just never know how some of these players will develop. Remember OT Christian Jones? His first couple of seasons starting, he was a penalty or whiff waiting to happen, but in his final year with Flood, he became one of our better OL and even got drafted. Wingo was a true freshman and made some big plays last season. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like he's progressed as much as we would have liked, but hopefully he improves next year. As for Arch, I'm not sure it was the Texas fans claiming he was going to win the Heisman, but we did think he was going to be an improvement from Quinn. Hell, he looked pretty good in his two starts last season, but looked pretty bad for most of this season until recently.

Ultimately, I think we'll always be clueless to some degree.

The reverse sweep sucked. Kentucky showed why they are #2. Hopefully Texas gets the #3 overall seed and gets another shot at UK in the tournament.

Nebraska has been so dominant this year, it would be a pretty big upset if they don't win it all.

Agreed, sucked big time. Texas was up 23-19 in the 3rd set needing just 2 more points to win the match. Hopefully we'll meet them again in the tournament.

Nebraska is a machine. All those freshmen Texas beat a couple of years ago in the NC game have matured and it's paying off for them.
