Horrible news on Kris Boyd. Thoughts and prayers.

Looks like Kris is doing much better!!!

I have waited to let the dust settle to give another perspective on this season's performance. Everyone is trying to find faults: coaching, play calling, secondary, schemes, etc, etc. I know I will probably get flamed big time for posting this, but here goes. Perhaps the frustration starts with us fans. 😳 What you talking about, Willis? Let me explain.

First, Texas was overrated to start with. Paul Finebaum went on every talk show last summer and said Texas is the most talented team in the country. The media jumped on that. Then Urban Meyer even mentioned that and talked about how good Arch is. When Urban Meyer said that, that was a red flag for me. That was mentioned on other talk shows. I'm not blaming Urban or Paul for Texas losses. I do think they had a personal vendetta, but I'm not going to digress into that. Games are won on the field, not in the media.

Now let's talk about Paul Finebaum's observation: the most talented team in the country. There is a brand new OL. Even here it has been discussed how Arch has had to run for his life. Is this year's OL better than last year's? No. There are brand new WRs. Last year's WRs not only made yards after catches, they made touchdowns after catches. The new WRs are still dropping passes and don't know when to not go out of bounds (Vanderbilt). There are brand new TEs. How do they compare to last year's? This is Arch's first year. He has made improvement, but he is not the Mannings in their prime. The RBs were hurt. There is a brand new DL. Honestly, is this the most talented team in the country? Perhaps next year, but not this year. How did Finebaum get to the most talented team in the country? Mongo don't know.

Now to other media. We all heard how Arch is conducting voluntary practices with long passes. Another media report. He was going to bomb everyone. We all saw that was not going to work with this year's OL. Sark did change schemes to shorter passes. Was Sark perfect? No. I did see he was trying to adapt.

Last summer and at the beginning of the year we are told over and over that Arch is going to be next year's #1 NFL draft pick and this year's Heisman Trophy winner. Not this year. Perhaps the following year. Some on media talked about how some NFL teams are positioning themselves to draft Arch. We were told this is the most talented team in the country. Is that true? No. We had all hoped Texas would go undefeated this year. Media hype and fan hope doesn't win football games. Execution does. Perhaps some of the fault lies with us. Honestly, did we really believe Texas was #1 or even as good as last year's team after UTEP or Florida games? No, but we wanted to believe things would change. That wasn't realistic with basically a wholesale change in personnel (as mention above). Don't get me wrong: I want a repeat of 1963, 1969 and 2005 every year and beat every team 72-0.

Haven't watched 20 minutes total of NFL this year, but will check in on Cowboys/Raiders. DeMarvion Overshown is back from his 2nd rehab tonight. Hopefully, he can stay healthy and make an impact.

Good analysis. This team had way too many unknowns to be ranked so high. Unfortunately most of the unknowns turned out to be bad, if not worst case. Let's beat aggy and piggy and go into next year with momentum.

To play devil's advocate, didn't Ohio State just lose a bunch of upperclassmen especially on their D-Line, O-Line, quarterback and running backs? Yet they've managed to meet or exceed their preseason expectations.....

True. No disagreeing with that, but I would also say their they WRs were experienced, fast, and athletic. They get separation and don't drop the ball. That helps. That being said, your point is valid. Good call. I will take your point even further. What about Indiana?

To my main point, Texas does not have the most talented team in the country. SHA made a good point that the off-season evaluations from portal, etc. was a miss.
The talent on the field is not up to realistic expectations of a national championship. Florida and Georgia made that clear. For that matter, UTEP, Kentucky and Mississippi State, none of which are power houses, showed that with close games.

Meanwhile I'm pulling for the Horns to beat two old SWC rivals: piggy and the ice cream suits.

The preseason polls were so far from reality that it boggles the mind. Look at that poll again Yes, Texas was # 1... But look who was #2... Penn State....We ate the cheese... Shame on us....
And Clemson was a #4. Seems like a lot of incredible misses this year in their initial poll. Lends credence to folks wanting polls to start later in the season.

To play devil's advocate again, don't we want a coach who doesn't have the most talented roster but can still find ways to win, i.e. coach up the talent we have? I'm not calling for Sark's head and he's done a much better job than our last couple of coaches. But sometimes it's hard to stomach how we're losing and also watching our offense struggle to score points.

As for Indiana, based on their results, Cignetti is a hell of a coach who keeps winning with a roster that isn't as talented as Texas, Ohio St, etc. He's just a bit odd in terms of speaking to the media, etc.

Word spreading that Sam Leavitt is entertaining the transfer portal.

Could be worth a call/visit... 🤷‍♂️

Texas won't be adding a qb...

But it is going to be interesting to see if Leavitt or Lanoris Sellers gets more in NIL deals this offseason to go back to school.

From most people’s eyes going into the season, Texas had probably the 3rd or 4th most talented roster in the country. Georgia and Ohio State are very young in many areas too.

A lot of things didn’t go right last offseason including development, talent evaluation and coaching. Complacency? Maybe. Listening to the pundits and polls? Probably.

The biggest issue is players not improving much during the season outside of Arch.

Compete. May the better QB win 🤷‍♂️
Id prefer not to throw away 2 seasons on a project.
aggie troll comment.

If there is to be competition at the QB it will be Manning, Lacey, and Bell.

Clear? Or just how much aggie are you? Besides a true Longhorn bleeds burnt orange and white and not just orange & white.
