Sark gone???

What is this?

I doubt it.

That said, I hope Sark gleaned some "adaptability" lessons from his former mentor - Nick Saban. Coach Saban evolved with the games a few times when it looked like the game was passing him by.

Sark had better evolve - or he's on a track to be run out of Austin in a few years. Let's just say (for argument sake) that we finish the regular season 8-4 and go to the precious Alamo Bowl after starting the year as preseason #1. I've noted over the years that the Longhorn fanbase reacts most petulantly - at having their expectations built up only have them come crashing down. You top this off with a couple more 3, 4 or 5 loss seasons - with a fanbase who thinks all the resources are in place to be elite.... and he wouldn't be the first coach to be run out of town with a really good record.

I can't give you Xs and Os - and this may get shot down... but with regard to evolving, I'd say his offense had better change. Since he's been here, Coach K - and not his offensive genius has been the primary source for really good success. When we play good defenses, we don't manage 20 points. Something about his offense seems to be rather easy to defend, even with a high level of talent. The wish-bone was at one time unstoppable, and nobody this side of the Naval Academy runs it today. I hope Sark has the awareness to adapt and change a bit. Because this dog is hunting down a precarious path.

Finally, I hope Sark takes a deep-dive look at the offseason portal failure this year and reexamines how they determined who and what to go after.

I agree that it shouldn't be this hard for an offensive guru to have a productive offense. It's frustrating to see lesser teams (i.e. Florida, Miss St.) score on our defense. I'm afraid that Sark isn't all that great at adapting the offense to the skillset of the team. If our OL is not good at pass pro, why not add quicker hitting plays? It felt like it took 1 or 2 games too long to adjust and hit the screen or hitch passes.

At the same time, I have no idea who we would want to replace Sark. One thing for sure is the discipline on this team is so lackluster, it is probably bleeding into all phases of the game whether it be costly penalties or blown assignments.

If Sark does indeed leave, who would be your (realistic) top candidates to replace him?

I don't think Sark wants to leave and I don't think Texas wants to fire him. He's 7-3 after three years of being one of the best in the nation. I think he's allowed a bad year from time to time, if 7-3 is what a bad year looks like.

What hurt Sark the most this year was 1) being so young and inenxperienced at WR (and the injuries). Nobody feared our speed, nobody feared our pass catching. It has not been productive for this offense, especially at key points. 2) Not having a home run threat at RB. Baxter was to be that guy but injury prevented that. He's still not back to his old self. 3) An OL that had talent, but with little experience and no cohesiveness. It has gotten better as the season has progressed. We ran the ball on Georgia. Pass pro had significantly improved. 4) Arch. Just didn't have the year everyone expected. But like the OL, he has seemingly taken off the last few weeks. Experience will help him a lot next year.

But the combination of those things, IMO, and not addressing those things in the portal, hurt Sark and this team this season. I suspect we have recruited our answer at RB. OL will not have the same disadvantages next year. Pick up a pair of very good WRs in the portal and we should be back on schedule.

My issue here is... Does Desmond really just randomly put this out there without hearing some rumblings or something from a credible source? First there was the Athletic article on Sark's NFL interest, and now this. I dont think he would.

Would anyone be surprised, given the current landscape of college football with 24/7/365 recruiting and NIL, that a top HC in the country would prefer to be in the NFL if they came calling instead of dealing with the headache at the college level?

Basically what I'm getting at is... there's no "shocking" news anymore. I hope Sark sticks around and really makes some of the changes mentioned above by SHA to make a title run, but the world has changed and if a coach has had enough, I don't and wouldn't blame him one bit.

Del Conte replied to it saying it was news to him. Again I think this is much to do about nothing. And I think 2026 will be a much better year than 2025.

This are now two separate sources that have suggested Sark's departure is a good possibility. Seems to be a tad strange amount of smoke for there to be no fire at all?

I'll tell you this... something changed in our teams "readiness" from the previous two years to this one. The previous years I felt we were well prepared most of the time - and I saw definite player development. This year that has NOT been the case (an exception being Arch). We've had pre-snap and post-snap penalties all year long - second worst team in the nation in this category. The secondary has regressed. All year the receivers and tight ends have a bad case of the dropsies. And after several games the pundit narrative has been we were "out-coached."

I certainly don't know if there's anything to these rumors.... but two suggestions from people with access to inside knowledge - and the declined readiness of our team lends some credibility.... no?

Do you think an AD commenting on the probability of a coach returning during the season is a real accurate measure?

I hope you're correct about 2026. We were very young this year.... although Gerry Hamilton has been pounding the point that in the NIL era there is absolutely no reason for the "young excuse...." In reality, we were very young this year.

IF Sark left (I don't want him to leave but instead hire an elite OC), who would be the top candidates?

1. Elko - if he finishes strong
2. Kiffin
3. Lanning
4. Meyer
5. Cignetti?
6. Whiitingham

If we steal Elko from aggy, I expect an armed invasion of the 40 acres.

Not sure if it is possible to steal Elko. You would need eight Clydesdale horses and the Budweiser beer wagon. Not sure if that could be done quietly in the night.

I don't want aggy's coach. The ASU coach is intriguing... He got a lot of out of an undermanned team last year. I think they were picked last or close to it.

Nobody will like hearing this... but Meyer is the only "sure thing" with regard to winning big at Texas. Or as close to a sure thing as you can get. He's the second best available college coach and the first is Nick Saban.

Don't kill the messenger.

I think Cignetti and / or Kiffin would make things really interesting.

If Sark were to "mutually part ways" at the END OF THE YEAR, a lot of these guys may already have deals done.

Freeman has it made. Why get into any conference when you can play cream puffs and make it into the playoffs every year? Go 10-2 and you're in the playoffs. With their schedule, it just doesn't get any easier. No way he jumps ship.
Nevertheless, I'd kick the tires. Kelley left Notre Dame for the SEC. He thought he had a better shot at winning a natty at LSU - for recruiting purposes I think?

Marcus Freeman would need to rebuild the program around his style of play IMO, it would be a 3-5 year process

Kiffin is a much better plug and play fit at this point, his offensive system is almost identical to Sark
