*****GAME THREAD : UTEP @ No. 7 TEXAS*****

Before I jump on the "bench Arch" bandwagon, I'll throw this out. He looks like a first year starter who has had very few meaningful snaps. When you're the backup QB, you can play loose and fling the ball around without much pressure if you know you can't be QB1.

But when you are QB1, there is some pressure. You can lose QB1 status. When you are the pre-season favorite to win the Heisman, that could add a little more pressure. When your last name is Manning, there is a whole heck of a lot of pressure. Has any Manning QB been benched?

I believe the expectations for Arch were a little high. He needs to play loose and have fun. Forget QB1 or QB2 and just play like he knows how to play. It'll come. It just may not be this year.
He’s having trouble playing loose against UTEP and San Jose State. Butterflies for Week 1 against the national champions at the Shoe is very understandable.

Not only is he not meeting the high expectations which is ok, he’s not even meeting basic requirements for being a starting QB. It’s that bad.

Yet another year at Texas has started where we are all questioning who deserves to be the starting QB. I thought we’d be done for at least a year with Manning the clear leader but right now none of us are sure that Manning is the one who can maximize the Ws for this team.

Give him his chance I guess….but it’s not looking good.

Having been a QB at one time, I understand what he's doing. It can happen to any QB or even pitcher (baseball). You get yourself in a habit of trying to place the ball instead of passing the ball. He can come out of this, but he has to understand that it's happening.

When you try to place the ball, you stop your follow through by trying to stop your hand in the direction of your target. You can't do this. You have to follow through with your motion.

Luckily, I had a coach who saw it and got me out of it. Happened to me both at QB and on the mound.

Sark said Manning is pressing. I think this is what is actually happening instead.

Saturday Manning missed a RB target on a pass to the flat. It sailed over the head of the RB. Seriously, this is an automatic pass that Manning completed time and again last year. He didn't forget how to do it. He just adopted a bad habiit.

This is just my opinion. I'm no expert.

Well said!

I was telling my peeps that he reminds me of a baseball player who all of the sudden cannot make routine throws. Chuck Knoblauch comes to mind.... all of the sudden he could not throw the ball from second to first base. I also remember a catcher who all of the sudden couldn't make the throw back to the pitcher between pitches. People keep talking about mechanics.... it isn't so much mechanics, as it is psychological.

What you said above I agree with 100%.

Should we pitch in and get him a subscription to Playboy so he can read the articles?

Here's some random thoughts from an armchair Coach who has never made a wrong decision, after the fact:

> Make Manning into Sam Ehlinger 2.0. The one thing he does well (right now) is run. Run him on zone-read. Run him between the tackles. Make him a viable running threat for the defense to worry about.
> Start taking field goals and punt the dang ball. We do one thing great this year... play defense. We need to realize who we are and study Fred Akers films from the early 80s. Run down clock and try to win games 17-7.

After we finish this season (probably a disappointing finish):

> Double Coach K's Salary.
> Give Head Coach Sark a slight raise.
> Fire OC Sark and insist Head Coach Sark go outside and hire a new one.... preferable from the Briles tree.
I 'll second all,but giving Sark raise?🤔
