2025 Recruiting Board/Thread

Looks like we're getting a committment tomorrow folks. A name I have not read before. Apparently, we've been recruiting him. 4-star safety Zelus Hicks (6'2, 185). out of Georgia.

Texas, Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia and Clemson are the finalist for him. Gerry places our percentage at 75% to get him.

I think he's a 2026 kid but is going to reclassify to 2025. He's had three visits to UT.

He announces tomorrow.

He is really more like a 5 star based on rankings, in the top 32 for all but one service.

Justin Wells at IT has said "it's definitely not Georgia, they stopped recruiting him". I still don't know what he means by that.

Georgia already has two 4-star safeties in their class.

Nice. I had no idea he was reclassifying. Hadn't heard that part until coming here.

For the top teams I don't think their will be a significant drop in average recruit ranking, but having 105 vs 85 should result in better average quality of players that win significant playing time. For better or worse this likely also causes more players to portal.

I see the new 105 scholarship limit expanding the advantage that schools like TX got with the addition of NIL and the transfer portal.
I wonder about the portal as well. The numbers entering may swell tremendously. This may help the smaller schools as they would have free agency for players that realize they don't have a clear path to playing time.

Hicks is a composite 5* that might reclassify. I saw a little tape this morning and he is a definite safety. Quick to the ball and a sure tackler.

Yeah that's already what's mostly happens. Players either decide to leave for playing time or get pushed out at schools like Texas, then they pick the best fit for them. Seems like allot of Texas portalled players end up at TCU.

On the other side of the coin players that excell at smaller schools move to bigger schools for more NIL and exposure.

As you say the portal numbers may swell, but I'm not sure. With the higher limit coaches may not have as much need to push players into the portal.

Question on reclassifying. Does this mean he won’t play his senior year in high school ?
And he would count in this year’s recruiting class ?

you know the old saying, those that cant... coach hahaha

To be fair, I think D. Willams was a late drop from 5* to 4* but that may be nitpicking

That’s some damn fine recruiting. Better lock that guy up with a nice fat contract

I'm sorry, I didn't see the part about his Sr. Year. Disregard my previous comment.

I think he is still playing, but reports are he is likely graduating in May and will be available in the summer. Similar to what Ryan Williams did at Alabama last year and of course Quinn.

Who knows though.
Man….with NIL and all the rest of the changes like expanded rosters, it’s hard to keep up !

It is. If he staying 2026, then I won't get too excited because that is an eternity for HS recruits. If he reclassifies, then that is good that he gets developed by the Texas staff early.
