Street should have a statue - he posted a perfect 20-0 record, the most wins without a loss in Longhorns history.
As a pitcher he was twice All-American who threw the only perfect game in University of Texas baseball history.
This! ⬆️ Bottom line:
1) Street is the is the WINNINGEST QB to play for Texas.
2) Only UT pitcher to throw perfect game.

That summarizes and defines WINNER.

The last two years of VY, Texas was 24-1 ending on a 20 game winning streak. Street averaged about 270 yds rushing and 615 yds passing a year. It was a different game. But there is only one metric they are comparable on and that is wins.

If VY would have been allowed to play on that team, do you think he could have handled the wishbone?
If VY played on that team, do you think they would have ran the wishbone?

I'm I the only on that watched the volleyball game last night vs Tennesse? Man, what a thriller! The Horns were down 2-1 and Tennesse ahead 24-21 just 1 point from winning the set and match. However, the Horns came back to win the 4th set 26-21! Then after being up 14-10 in the 5th set, Tennesse came back to tie it at 14s. The Horns scored the next two points to take the match to advance!

The next game is going to be a tough one vs Stanford in Palo Alto, who swept Texas at home earlier this year.
You're not alone. Great game last night. Going to need their A+ game against Stanford.

Just wondering what this has to do with my post?

Well the todays athletes are faster, stronger, and more agile for the most part. Probably because Street era was mostly the "white guys cant jump" era. I really didnt want to go there but this goes back to earlier conversation there are no white starting cb in the nfl. My guess is VY would absolutely dominate the teams Street played against. Hell my HS BBall team would get slapped silly today but back then we were pretty good.

I will say they were both great players with comparable athletes during their time. They were superior to their opponents. Not taking anything away from either.

I wish some of the younger crowd could have seen James Saxton and Chris Gilbert play. They were amazing.

Let's appreciate both Street and Young (and all others) for their accomplishments during their time (and era).

If Barry Sanders played behind the Dallas line of the 90s who knows what could have happened. As Darrell Royal replied to a sports writer, "You are what-iffing. Anyone can what if."

Zach Martin was being interviewed on the radio the other day, and they asked him about several analytics concerning Cowboys vs Eagles.
He said the only analytic he was really interested in was wins and losses.
I thought that was pretty cool.

Possibly but something tells me that DKR would have been smart enough to chnage his offense to play to VY's strength, like Brown did.

Square peg, round hole kind of thing.
VY, in the wishbone, would have been unstoppable.

VY's strength was not his arm. It was his legs and size and speed.

Street has the highest winning percentage. He’s 10th in wins. Behind Colt’s 45 (like the way that works), VYs 30, and Eastexhorn’s favorite Bobby Layne’s 28. They are 1-3.

I'm not so sure about that. Remember that Street replaced Super Bill Bradley as quarterback. Bradley was an incredible athlete, but couldn't move the ball well in the Wishbone or the previous offense. DKR pulled Bradley for Street and the rest is history.

VY's strength was not his arm. It was his legs and size and speed.

Yet he led the nation in passing accuracy his last year in college. His strength was running but when he took off from the pocket.

But we'll never know so we'll just agree to disagree.

What was up with that call in the 5th game around 14-12? Sure looked like a net violation on TN. Granted our setter clipped it too, but definitely after TN did. Announcers were no help explaining what happened on that point.

We beat USC with his legs, not his arm. The only reason we were still in that game was the last two running TDs by VY.

I cannot dream of a reason to think that a player who could run so well, winning the NC practically with his feet, would not be able to run a wishbone offense.

We may never "know" but we should be able to come to some basic conclusions. Its not like he'll forget how to run if there are three backs behind him.
