What’s to prevent other players from doing the same or leaving??
It better mean more than a UT education and a football career. Missing a season is a big risk and not many would want to do that, IMO. Make hay while the sun shines, as they say.
Besides, its the rules.
On the other hand, I think Overshown has a great point to make. There was talk. But there hasn't been results or communication regarding the issue. Thats on CDC and UT. I see nothing wrong with renaming some buildings, removing some statues and whatnot. They could at least get that moving.

Nonsense. Just LAST NIGHT protestors in New York shut down downtown with their protest. This, despite NY city gov meeting their demand by removing $1 Billion from the police budget. They had said they would stop if that demand was met. They didn't. The goalposts simply got moved and it didn't even take 12 hours to do it.
Yes, it should matter. For the record, its unfortunate that the protest movement (not the Black Lives Matter movement) has been hyjacked by marxists in the form of white college educated liberals and BLM. Its tough to achieve your goals when someone else is ruining your moment in the spotlight.

Right now, he doesn't have a career. He was EXPECTED to make some noise this year, launching his career. But right, its just potential. And that potential will get delayed yet another year. What will he be like then? This isn't wise though I understand what you're saying. There was another way of doing this without hurting himself. Overshown is from poor East Texas, where I'm from. There's nothing there for him as far as a professional future. He needs to make it here or somewhere.
And I’m sure Overshown knows what he is sacrificing.
Young people are to be guided until they are adult enough to make their own decisions. This is part of what college is for. I don't think he received much guidance on this. I certainly wouldn't have told him to go throw himself on a sword right when things could have really opened up for him.
Yes, these are my opinions. You're also stating yours. I enjoy reading yours as they make me think. But please stop with the knee-jerk thinking I'm employing racist thinking. I own a small business. If an employee wants to make a stand, he can stay home as much as he likes. I will hire someone to replace him and move on. This is the point of view I come from. There was a better way of doing this.

You must be fairly young. Some things just do not happen with a threat or a snap of the fingers. You will learn that as you grow older. I can guarantee you that UT is moving slowly because conservative millionaires are voicing their concern over The Eyes and state money going to political groups. The statues and building names are just window dressing at this point and everyone knows it.

I'm throwing in the towel on this season. I was holding out hope, but the current trends are not very promising. I know there is a lot of money in CFB, but it's just not looking good. I'm an optimist, hell im still holding out hope Jaylon Waddle will transfer to Texas.

I think there's a purpose to this panic, but I won't go there today. They hype the numbers but don't say that much of the increases are caused by simply testing more people.
We just began July. Things change quickly. A few weeks ago texbound wouldn't have posted that. I think in a few weeks, he may well feel differently.

I am encouraged by some of the trends we see in the Coronavirus. There are older people walking out of the hospital in two weeks, 88 year old people. There are people in their late 60’s who are only mildly symptomatic. There are young people who are asymptomatic.
Something that is being done is effective.
It is encouraging that we now know that it is spread more like most respiratory viruses. Medical personnel have learned a lot about this virus. We don’t have a vaccine yet, but we have a lot more knowledge. That is encouraging.
I, too, wish DO had sought advice before he made additional comments. I would imagine that Herman and team leaders have spoken to him since.

I hope and pray that you're correct and my pessimism is completely unfounded. I'm ready for a season and excited to see Longhorn football again. Just in case, I started learning how to really play golf. At least i get to do that all year round out here.

I hate for anyone to sit out anything this year. Sure, the guys that had a place to workout were probably already working out, but without a support group and trainer, I don’t think many work out as effectively.
Seniors, or guys that only have this year left. What about them? There are always one or two who really move up and perhaps even get a their shot at the pros based on their last year. I want them to have that opportunity.
I would think that anyone who chooses to sit out will lose their job to their replacement, and will be required to win it back. That puts winning it back out of their control. If anyone has forgotten, we have new offensive and defensive coordinators. There are few people with safe jobs.
Get ready for the season, Men, and Hook em!

Unfortunately, you are probably right. The unfortunate part is that when the country was shut down that was the time to ramp of testing and contact tracing like other countries. Too bad we have a psychopath in the White House who did not do these things. Instead he calls the whole thing a hoax.
His great idea to go to Tulsa which was a hot spot at the time and hold an indoor rally really makes sense since he only cares about himself and does not care about his own supporter's health. If we had proper leadership then we may have had a full fall football season, but I doubt it now. At least we would have had better odds that the season would be played in full.
I still haven't heard how the season is going to work. If one UT player gets Covid before the opening game then we could a large portion of the team sitting out the next two weeks in quarantine which would mean a forfeit or a loss unless the other team has even a worse problem.
If it's an important player like Sam then he would be out for a least two weeks. Plus I had Covid in February and I had no energy for four weeks. Others that have had Covid has told me the same about their energy So, an important player who gets Covid during the season could miss or not be effective for four or five games.
My best hope is to get in some games in the fall and finish the season in the spring. Don't know what the virus will be like in the spring, but we will probably have a new President who can't be as bad as the orange guy as far as the virus goes.
Dr. Sheldon Jacobson told CBS Sports he expects a 30%-50% infection rate of the approximately 13,000 players competing in FBS this season. Based on his research, he also projects 3-7 deaths among those players due to COVID-19.
"A few of them could end up in the hospital, and you'll have a small number who could die," Jacobson told CBS Sports. "I don't want to sugar coat it for you. I just want to give you the facts. … If everybody comes together under normal circumstances, we'll probably see that kind of outcome."

Whats more, it took Obama six months to declare an emergency with the Swine Flu, which has a distinctly higher mortality rate than Wuhan Virus. (3-4% vs 0.26%). Funny how we didn't have PD running around calling Obama a psychopath back then.

Didn't Obama also put together a pandemic response team so that something like this wouldn't catch us by surprise. But didn't Trump quickly dismantle that team?

Hardly. Once he went through inventory of needed supplies, such as respirators, he didn't refill them. He left the cupboard bare. If there was a team, it failed miserably.
