***Official Texas Baseball vs TCU Game Thread; SU 1 PM FSSW+ ***

well, that was a shitshow in the 9th.  Field has been solid all year, but this was not the time to lose control.  Need more active bats tomorrow.
I actually disagree with Fields being solid this year. He’s been ok in low leverage situations but has blown a couple of saves and not performed well in high leverage situations. He has been overthrowing the ball under pressure. Great kid great family and hope he gets it right between the ears but let’s not use Quintanilla for two innings on a Wednesday anymore.

Let’s not play B2B midweek non conference games anymore.

Hindsight is generally 20/20. Pierce probably shouldn’t have let Elder go back out for B9. He probably should’ve gone with someone who doesn’t typically work low in the zone, as Fields tends to do. I say this because Blue had really not been overly consistent on the low strikes and when Fields came in, his first two pitches were down in the zone but called as balls. Maybe go with a different option there. Additionally, you cannot have your closer continually burying pitches in the dirt and putting his catcher in such a tough spot

Quintanilla was not coming in last night after throwing 3 frames on Wednesday. You don’t want to overuse a guy just coming off of TJ and putting him in would have put unnecessary strain on his arm.

Now, all that said, Horns will lace up their spikes and get after it again tonight. 7:30 PM ESPNU.
