Can we run the ball against Okie light?

Will Beck be able to get a running game established against the Okie light defense this Saturday. I do not think we can beat them if we try to get into a scoring shoot out and the running game will be key to keeping their offense off the field and keeping our defense rested.  I am hoping Todd can find a way to get a lot of pressure on the QB as i am not worried about him beating us with his legs, but I am worried when he has time to make his reads and finds the open receiver,  I actually think that Okie light is going to be a much bigger challenge than OU, so the Coaches have to have the team ready to play all 4 quarters are we will be talking about moral victories once again next week.

We are ranked #62 in rushing offense and OSU is #64 in rushing defense.  The one problem is our QB's account for a big chunk of it.

Until the OL improves I doubt we can rush the ball with RBs.  Atleast not successfully.  Carter off tackle is my vote.

I cannot disagree with you DMAC , but what are some things  Beck could do to maybe create an offensive  scheme that is lacking the ability to run the ball yet is still able to move the ball and eat up the game clock?  I would love to see us jump out to a 3 score early lead  and then let Todd bring the house plus the kitchen sink as he did against USC .

Coming from someone that watches every okiestate football game (me) the way to beat them is on the ground. TCU put up 240 rushing yards on em in there victory, unfortunately we don’t have what it takes up front to do this... I have said from week 1 this is the game I’m worried about. There solid. There offense is 10x more deadly with big plays then HoeU and mayfield. Mason Rudolph will pick on Boyd all game. I was VERY confident against ou.... this not at all. BUT I am goin to the game and will be cheering my ass off. I just believe Sam will have to scramble  30 times

What I'm hoping for is that emphasis was placed on the running game this week and that we've found ways to get yardage against OSU with someone not named Sam Ehlinger.

I am hoping that this OL will play better each week and will show some promise in this game.

I am hoping that Beck calls a good game.

I don't think we'll have any more success running the ball with our RB's against Okie lite than anyone else. The one way I see a possible victory is making Rudolph uncomfortable in the pocket. If Jefferson and Hagar had connected on sacks early in the 0U game, Mayfield would have sped up the clock in his head and gotten happy feet. That could have changed the complexion of the game. Orlando's defense should be able to get more pressure on Rudolph, the OSU O-line isn't as good as 0U's and Rudolph isn't as mobile as Mayfield.

Bottom line is that we don't have a running back that can make the team miss or that can break a tackle. Basically they are below average.
Man, how did my Longhorns , the team of Earl Campbell, Ricky Williams, Foreman , and so many other great backs get to this point!  The Coaches get paid a hefty amount to deal with such problems , so I am just going to say  they have to figure it out and create a game plane that will work!

Correct. Our running back's must "make the team miss" because there are zero holes to run through. In the last few games I don't remember a play (or at least many) where a RB has crossed the LOS without contact from someone. Last year Foreman would be at the second level with a full head of steam before anyone touched him.

Porter goes down on contact. Warren can break a tackle but he doesn't have the acceleration. He hits the pile at the LOS and plods forward. Carter seems like a fairly strong kid and has the acceleration but again he must run through somebody every play.

I doubt there is a RB anywhere with the skill set to be productive with our O Line and blocking scheme. They would make a GOAT seem average.

I believe our best chance of establishing a running game between the tackles is with Carter and a zone blocking scheme up front.

My guess is no. I think our O line would make Dobbins look bad. Need more screens and quick passes to take the place of our nonexistent running game.

Unless the Horns play San Jose St again I say no...............well, maybe against Kansas.

You know with 6 games still left , it will be a freaking miracle if we do not have anymore injuries to the Offensive Line!   Without a run game I just do not think we win this game !

Our running game should improve every game if the players on the OL remain consistent.  The more time the more they improve.

Sam will have to carry the load as usual until then.

I think we win but then again I think we win every game.  So theres that.

It's hard to come up with a run game within a 7 day span. Like many of y'all mentioned above, the offensive line and running backs are not playing well right now. It would unfair to everyone if they all of a sudden tried to become a “run the ball between the tackles” offense just for this game, it simply won't work with this offensive line unit. What Texas needs more than anything is just an average start, not even a fast one, but one where they can string together first downs and not put the defense on the field for 10 minutes of the first quarter. I am with @okiehorn, this game scares me more than OU because of the explosive play ability of Rudolph and the WR position.
