Heights-Lamar showdown on tap Saturday
College scouts will abound in Houston Saturday afternoon at 1 pm when Houston Lamar squares off against Houston Heights. The game will feature three Texas Longhorn commits (Alvonte Woodard, D’Shawn Jamison and Jalen Green) plus Texas target and 5-star DB Anthony Cook.
Jamison is Texas’ newest pledge and could provide the Longhorns with some help influencing target Cook, who plans to announce on Oct. 30.
Heights is undefeated with a 5-0 record while Lamar enters the game with one loss to then ranked Klein Collins.

Arlington Lamar football coach Laban Delay said in an email Monday that star defensive lineman Bobby Brown is "not probable to play" in Friday's key District 4-6A game against district leader Mansfield. Lamar (3-3, 2-1) is in a three-way tie for second with Arlington and Arlington Martin, one game out of first.
"Bobby Brown suffered an injury several weeks ago," Delay said in his email "I can not go into details of his injury."
Brown, a four-star recruit, is ranked as the 13th-best defensive tackle in the nation in the Class of 2018 by 24/7.
Brown announced on Twitter last Wednesday that the eight colleges he is deciding between are Alabama, LSU, Florida State, Baylor, Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Houston.
Brown and teammate Javonte Kemp knelt during the national anthem while the rest of their team stood before their game against Arlington Sam Houston on Sept. 29. Brown wasn't in uniform for last week's game against Arlington, and he and Kemp knelt again during the anthem before that contest.
5A could have home-field system
ROUND ROCK -- Home-field advantage has finally established itself within UIL athletics. Now, it's spreading like a virus.
At Sunday's legislative council, the athletic committee removed the pilot status of its home-field advantage system in 6A and extended it to 5A football. If approved by the full council on Monday, it would go into effect for the 2018 season.
If it passes unchanged, the rules would work the same as what is in place for 6A: In the first round of the playoffs, the team with the higher district finish will play at home.
Adding 5A is might just be the start. Schools in smaller classifications have expressed to the UIL that they'd like it extended into their classifications.
A home first-round playoff game can be money maker.
"Come back in June," UIL athletic director Susan Elza said. "We're going to be talking about 4A and below."
The committee also discussed adding a home-field advantage rule to the 5A and 6A baseball playoffs, but the committee opted to study it further before taking any action.
Elza and UIL executive director Charles Breitahupt expressed concern about making rules that created two much of an advantage for one school when the playoffs is a time when, as Elza put it, "you get a fresh set of downs."
