The RS freshman has shed 35 pounds, and is looking to make an impact this season on a thin defensive line. Contribution from Daniels up front would come as a pleasant surprise. Check out how he looks this offseason below.

Seems like Charlie just wanted players to get big. I really like McKnight's philosophy on function strength and explosiveness. These guys should be training to be better athletes and football players. Conner Williams has added muscle and lost fat also.

When the comment came out the Malik benched as much as he squated that explained a lot about how he played last year.

Hope more guys are working like Daniels has.

Good on the kid for busting his butt to get into great shape. If he can play like he did his junior year of HS then he will be asset along the defensive line.

Hopefully at least one of Wilbon and Christmas follow this path. I remember watching Christmas hudl film and he had great quickness for his size.

Daniels was a guy who got too big his senior and needed that redshirt year to trim fat and pack on some muscle.

I'm not really buying into those knocking Moorer and the old S&C staff. I'll never forget everyone raving about how great players looked at UTL last year and the job Moorer was doing with the team. Malik's performance on the field was a lot more than what went on in the weight room.

Totally agree. Moorer did make players big. Enough so that it drew comments from the opposition several times.

Yup. They noticeably different in a good way. We can talk about the schemes not being effective and how players were used, but I think Moorer did a decent job. Of course you had guys like Jordan Elliott and Daniels who came in too big or got too big, but that was more of issue on a personal level.

I think the main difference in this department is the fact that Herman has constantly stayed on them all offseason. He takes it as far as making them send pictures of themselves on a scale. I don't believe Charlie and his staff ever did things of that nature to hold their guys accountable.

No they didn't. I give Herman credit for staying on top of things like that, but I wouldn't say things like that are common. That's a good thing for Texas going forward, but it shouldn't be a slight to the previous staff.

S&C is as much about the individual players as it is the staff that is training them.

The difference I've noticed is that the new guy trains for more specific actions and reactions. Highly specialized according to position. And while doing that, he maintains a solid foundation of traditional weight training. His players are showing results, at least in appearance. His kids are better athletes because of him.

Moorer was more old school, work your tail off until you puke type trainer. He was very no-nonsense, down to business – in an old school kind of way. His players respected him. His players were better athletes because of Moorer.

But, where's Yancy's pit?

Ever since the departure of Mad Dog, the team has had a good run at the S & C position. Benny, Moorer and now Yancy. All different, but very effective.
