SignUp Now!Thanks for the info. I disagree on any concern that Herman would turn down UT to stay at UH. Maybe if Houston wins the NC which I don't see happening. UT is considered the top coaching job in college while UH is trying to get into a power 5 conference. I listened to two college experts on ESPN after UH beat Oklahoma and they were asked if an undefeated Houston should go over a one loss conference champion and they both said that the one loss team should go before Houston. UH's schedule is two tough teams and the rest are cupcakes. They believe it's easier to get up for two games then to go through a power 5 schedule. If UH goes undefeated then they need to hope that the conference champions like Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, and Washington will lose two games since one loss would mean that they would go over an undefeated UH.After talking to Andy, I'm convinced Herman will be the next coach at Texas ... IF ... Houston does not make the CFB Playoff. If Houston beats Louisville and gets one of the four playoff spots, I'm not convinced that Herman would leave Houston unless Texas offers Saban-type money. Would the BMDs at Texas write that check on a coach with a limited resume even if that resume included a CFB Playoff appearance?
Strong had Teddy Bridgewater at Louisville while Herman went 9 games last year with a converted no name WR at QB and managed to beat Florida State.Strong was 15 pts away from being UNDEFEATED at Louisville the two years prior to arriving (26 games and two Bowl wins). Let that sink in when we are talking about wins against teams like Miami, Florida, and Houston.
Just how many points would it take Herman to be undefeated with the schedule and team in Austin the past 3 years? Who knows. Hopefully better but there is no guarantee.
Strong brought in Watson and Bedford.
Herman could bring Applewhite and Orlando.
Strong was the DC for Urban Meyer before his first HC gig
Herman was the OC for Urban Meyer before his first HC gig. (Ironically the Offense is not what needs fixing)
Again, I think Herman is a good coach but IF you will see it objectively is he actually any better than Strong? We wont know until he gets the chance and hopefully the good work Strong has put in will pay dividends for Herman or whoever is to follow. Coaching has a lot to do with the "right fit". Just because its working or has worked somewhere else does not mean it will work everywhere.
With regards to the bold part above, what Joel Klatt said makes a lot of sense.Strong had Teddy Bridgewater at Louisville while Herman went 9 games last year with a converted no name WR at QB and managed to beat Florida State.
By the way, how well is Louisville doing now going on their 3rd season after Strong? Never better.
How much rebuilding has Herman had to do at UH? Maybe, UH always had top 10 talent.
Yea that is right. Texas is the only school that needs a full fkn 5 years to right the ship with the common let the rebuilding process takes time. Young players...blah blah blah
3 blocked PAT's = shitty coaches. No excuses
I'll gladly buy this man a drink if I ever get a chance! Not to beat my chest or anything, but here is the post I had on Oct. 8 that laid out the scenario for Tom Herman to become the new coach at Texas at the end of the season. Thanks to Andy Staples for talking to me at length and comparing his intel with mine. Some of it did not come to fruition, like Auburn and USC turning their seasons around, and Fisher deciding to remain at Florida State. But the Texas part was spot-on.
