Strong says Bedford is not to blame

With all due respect, Charlie Strong is one of the last individuals I would turn to for an evaluation of a coordinator or a position coach. Charlie is atrocious at evaluating coaches.

Ok Charlie, if that is how you feel then I will agree with you that Vance is not to blame for the loss. That falls on the Head Coach of this team and if this type of defense continues then in the end that becomes the Head Coaches responsibility as your are responsible for getting that addressed. Hope that makes you feel better Charlie and know you have my support for you being held ultimately responsible for improving the Horn defense.

Oh and just think about this, every College Coach that has ever been fired would probably tell you that if the players only executed the game plan we had in place then things would be different.

Sad to say but you're right. When he brought Watson back for a second year I knew then we were in trouble long-term.

Guys, y'all know that I never criticize players, don't you?  Rewatch the game, look at it closely, in many instances they didn't execute.  I watched Holton Hill, once Davis went out, walk up to a receiver, then walk back.  Bump and run, nope.  I don't know if it's because we have sophomores out there playing juniors and seniors or what, but they are not knocking them off their routes.

C'mon, rewatch the game, then post this stuff if you see the same thing.

Charlie isn't throwing his guy under the bus in the press. No big deal. But good grief, I know you're not supposed to say Chinese fire drill anymore in this PC world, but watching in person that's what our secondary resembled,

Not dissing Bedford is one thing, but if Charlie can't or won't do something about this D, that's a problem.

matt, read this:

http://www.barkingcarnival.com/2016/9/18/12956342/shooting-from-the-hip-cal-50-texas-43

This guy never pulls punches, and he is on the spot.  Read it, then come back and give a well thought out response as to why he is wrong and you are right.  Do not post an emotional let's fire someone and all our problems will go away post, ok?

Hook 'em!
Thought this was probably the most interesting part of that article.

But if you have people blowing coverage after coverage and playing slow, hesitant and confused then you are either doing a poor job of communicating your defensive concepts or you’re dealing with a crew of card-carrying morons. Since the second isn’t fixable you sure hope you’re dealing with the first - but if the first isn’t sorted out posthaste this squad is looking at real trouble that won’t confine itself to just this season.

Maybe I am misunderstanding but what in the world in that article is supposed to make us feel better? If our players are not executing it means they're unable to physically or they are being very poorly coached.

I am not consoled by either answer.

yes, it's good.  I think we will see a big improvement against OSU; however, until one or both of our highly recruited safeties if ready for prime time, we will have some coverage busts.  That's a given.

I wish you were right, but I see us getting buried by osu. Last night showed that this team is "last year" and that's unacceptable.

What we saw last night wasn't "some coverage busts." The secondary simply doesn't seem to understand the basic concepts of the scheme they are supposed to be executing. Problems that deep are not solved by a bye week.

A much bigger concern for me is this defense has caused 1 turnover in three games (no interceptions). That doesn't happen unless you're playing safe and not to lose. That needs to change if this team wants to be good. Can't be behind in the turnover margin. They need a ball hawking safety and a edge rusher. I think they have the first in B Jones, but still not sure they have the 2nd (maybe Hager, Roach or even Fowler but they're young).

Strong's right, it's not Bedford's fault. As the head coach, he knows who is at fault.
