somebody made a Fire Steve Patterson website

it's obviously not going to happen, but the points he makes are valid, especially regarding ticket pricing and parking.

It doesn't sound like Patterson has many friends among the rank and file Texas-Exes and Longhorn Foundation members (not that he cares). Frankly, his tenure has been underwhelming IMO. He hasn't trimmed any fat from Bellmont and we were sold on him as being a "change agent". Obviously, he'll ultimately be graded on the Charlie Strong hire.

I wonder if Oliver Luck leaves UT for a job with the NCAA compliance office? Oh, well. Hindsight is 20/20

My understanding is Patterson was hired to fire Brown since Luck wanted no part of it. I may be wrong but that's what a friend of a friend of a friend,,, well you know where I'm going with that.

well, THAT went smoothly so i'm sure the Barnes deal will be fine.

In fairness to Patterson, there wasn't a "good" way to fire Mack. And I'd say most of the drama was manufactured by Brown himself and his supporters, including the heavy-hitting Joe Jamail; et al.
yeah, i know. the 30% increase on my tickets plus another hundy for parking have made me a tad cranky towards steverino.

Patterson's failure to generate good will among the rank and file alumni is his own fault. He has been on the job 16 months and has absolutely nothing he can point to as a signature achievement. It is as if he red-shirted his first year and has been simply going through the motions for the first half of his second year. I'm not sure the alumni are ever going to embrace someone whose only contribution to UT athletics has been collect paychecks (to the tune of $1.4 million/yr) and complain that the ungrateful alumni weren't paying enough.

Patterson was Bill Powers' mistake and Powers should be the one to own up to the mistake and let Patterson go so the next president of UT can be spared the distraction. Of course, that isn't going to happen.

I'm confident that Admiral McRaven will hire a UT President with enough intestinal fortitude to hire the right AD.

Of course, this just buys Patterson more time.

you're assuming powers would admit a mistake was made. The AD serves at the pleasure of the Pres, right? Presumably Powers is fine with Steve's performance or since he's retiring he just isn't going to worry about it.

Powers isn't going to do anything significant at UT between now and when he leaves. Sadly, neither is Patterson.

I'm finding myself agreeing with Randolph.

Our friends in the legislature are evidently tired of waiting for Good Ol' Steveo to do something about the game day atmosphere.

HB 336 from Rep. Tony Dale (R-Austin): Would allow people carrying an alcoholic beverage to enter or leave a stadium built no later than 1994 that seats at least 45,000 in a county with a population of more than 1.6 million or a stadium seating more than 6,000 in a county with a population of 420,000 or more that is adjacent to the county containing the state capitol. Travis and Williamson counties would meet the requirements.

way to have your priorities in order Tony.

If Steveo can't make the case to the Regents to allow the fans in the cheap seats to have a couple of beers during the game, we will just bring our own in with us.

Just how serious are the voices against Patterson? Admittedly, I don't follow it very much but I see and hear plenty of folks who are underwhelmed and voice a lot of disappointment in his works so far.

Just curious if folks think he can save his ass or should he be keeping the engine warm?

It isn't serious yet. It will be a topic for the next president to deal with and whoever that is, they won't do anything the least bit controversial for their first year, so even if people really wanted Patterson out, it wouldn't happen until 2016 at the earliest. That being said, it is becoming more obvious every day that Patterson isn't the right person for the job. The fact that people are keeping track of his blunders means the heat will continue to build until the spring of 2016. Personally, I think by spring 2016 people will have had enough of Patterson and he will be gone. I think he is a dead man walking. There is just too much money at risk to trust the athletic department to Steve Patterson's incompetence. It's never a good sign when the legislature starts meddling in what should be your area of responsibility.

Ha, ha.  Look at all the whining.

Patterson was hired to right the football program and the rest of the sports programs.  He was hired to do this NOT to appease the fans, but to protect the bottom line.  If we are losing on the field, we are losing money.

Every one of you simply refuse to accept that your opinions mean nothing to the powers that be.  Only if the turnstiles are affected will they pay attention to you.  Right now, Patterson is their personal hero.  Bet money on it.

Sorry to sound so cynical, but the truth is a hard pill to swallow.
