Kyler Murray & Demarkus Lodge visit UT

Quote from JUCO WR Dominique Reed, per conversation with Suchomel, regarding the Texas offense moving forward.

"He (Jay Norvell) said they've decided to spread the ball out. I'm a receiver, so of course I love to hear that"

The thing is, I don't think Kyler is ready to put down the football just yet. So what better situation to be in than at Texas where he can do both and expect legitimate success in both?

Whats his dream? Is it the NFL? Or, MLB? Does he know yet?
I think that the possibility to play for Augie might be the wild card that turns the tide. Given the number of players that Texas has sent to the Majors that has to be very enticing to Murray.

I watched him at the NIKE Camp last Spring and wasn't impressed with his skills; they were good, but not as good as some of the other kids. I have trouble getting over his size playing for a Top 25 team at QB. Could be another RGIII or Drew Brees out there I guess.

The downside of a NIKE Camp situation for a QB as it penalizes the player who routinely makes plays with his feet.  Murray is elite fast with a quick release and will excel at the collegiate level since it rewards these type of players.  Hard to imagine that KM would turn down a $1 million signing bonus to play baseball, but maybe his father's career actually has him thinking football/education first.

The NIKE camp puts these kids through their paces and plenty of QBs there had better footwork, were faster and released the ball quicker. Maybe he was loafing that day.

People should also consider that a baseball career lasts significantly longer and better paying than football. As a father all things being equal Id prefer my kid play baseball if anything simply for his health. Although QBS are the most protected in the game or is it kickers 😕

just wondered if aggie offered to allow him to play baseball too.

of course, texas baseball > a&m baseball

I said I was out for the evening, but too exciting.  This is definitely it!  I have two thoughts on MLB.

1)  If an eighteen year old is good enough to go straight to the majors, the money is frequently overwhelming.  If you haven't heard the stories, please look them up.  The college experience can never be replaced, even if you attend as an older student.  College should be experienced when you are just out of high school, full of exuberance and promise, as well as, single.

2)  if a player doesn't go straight to the majors, the minors is no picnic.  As Augie has been quoted, 'why would anyone give up baseball at UT to play in the minors?'

Adam Dunn was projected as a high draft pick, chose UT, stayed for a year, and when he didn't win the starting job the following year, he was in a strong negotiating position.  I believe he went to the Reds?  Right/Wrong?  He never looked back.

The Murrays are smart.  They know where they stand, and they wouldn't be talking to UT Baseball, as well as football, if Kyler was not considering staying at UT for at least three years.  It's possible that he loves football and would like to see if he can make it at the pro level in that sport.

Just my opinion.  Take it as you will.  Night all.
Here are the numbers and percentages I was told once.

Little leaguers who make a high school team - 1%

Students who try out and make a high school baseball team - 10%

High school players who make a Jr. College team - 7%

High school players who make a 4 year college team - 4%

High school players that are drafted by the pros - 1 - 2%

College players who are drafted by the pros - 5 - 7%

Minor league players who make the big leagues - 1%

Average salary for a minor league player - $900 mo., gross

Average signing bonus - $3K - $8K.

If Murray is drafted in the 1st round, he can expect a bonus of one million +.  He would be a blithering idiot not to take it.  That's basically winning the lottery with a chance to make even more.  He can always go back to school, but these kinds of offers are hard to come by.
