Are you being willfully obtuse, or do you really believe the intent of the statement was to compliment Strong's abilities at coaching at every level except as the head coach? Come on, man.
It seems like mentioning racism- the so-called race card- is more objectionable than actual racial discrimination to a lot of folks. Strong certainly did not get the UT job because of some sort of perverse $25 million affirmative action motivation by the university. Another point:Did you ever...
Why is UT copying A&M? Strong is a defensive head coach with a strong pedigree in the SEC. This is the exact opposite of Sumlin's coaching path. I'm waiting for you to explain how Strong and Sumlin are so alike.
The Texas-can-get-anybody crowd takes a beating. Saban is the bigger name, but at some point age and human nature kick in. Strong may well be the better candidate moving forward. At least he wanted the job. Saban either played UT for suckers, or the university fumbled the ball at the goal line...
I don't agree with your reaction. If you support a school, or a team during the good times, you shouldn't bail on them. Also, Mack Brown may not be perfect, but throwing around terms like POS reflects more on the user than the recipient.
My name is Brent and I am a t-shirt fan (my AA impression). I was born in Channelview, TX, outside of Houston and lived there mostly with stops in Alaska and Colorado. I have lived in New Zealand for the last 11 years. It's home now.
This is an accomplished bunch on this board. I am the head of Media Studies at a secondary school here in New Zealand. Being a dad to my two boys is my favorite job.
This is exactly what needs to happen. Nobody in the know with an agenda of hiring Nick Saban, or anybody to coach the Longhorns should utter a word about anything until the contract is signed. Radio silence, people!
I think Briles would be a great hire. He has an innovative offense, has strong connections with Texas high school football and has produced every place he has been. A Texas guy who can scheme, recruit and get players to run through walls for him is a good starting place if I am Steve Patterson.
Point well taken. I guess what baffled me more is why anybody truly in the know that wants Saban to coach the Longhorns would give out *any* information at this stage.
The timing of the reports of the last two days on this site is fishy. "Saban will be the next coach of the Texas Longhorns" and "Mack may file a lawsuit against the University" seems pretty convenient to have as a built in excuse why yet another "done deal" prediction with Saban falls through...
