Hats off to Arch Manning for one hell of a performance yesterday in Starkville. He has taken a lot of criticism this season, but yesterday's win was largely because of how he played down the stretch. Erased a 17 point 4th quarter deficit, which is unreal.

The hit he took gave him a concussion and he is in concussion protocol. Expect to see Matthew Caldwell start next week against Vandy, barring a super speedy recovery by Arch. Usually these things take longer than a week, but the medical staff will handle the injury appropriately.

Arch stats against Mississippi State:

29/46 for 346 yards and three passing TDs.
6 rushing yards on 10 attempts with 1 TD.
1 INT (not his fault, Livingstone should have caught that ball).

They need to get K J Lacey some serious snaps at practice this week. I doubt Caldwell will be able to hang with Vandy's defense.

I expect to see short, quick passes with Caldwell. It's exactly what we need with our O-Line. We'll try to run it 15-20 times and unless we are successful, it'll be a lot of short passes. Hopefully past the line of scrimmage.

I suspect Caldwell will probably perform well, i think he has the ability to run the playaction game and look down field, that is where Manning struggles the most

Sark is very, very, very slow.... or even opposed to replacing a QB due to bad performance.

Is Ehlinger the last Texas QB to start the entire season?
I believe so.

It is amazing Manning lasted as long as he did taking so many hits! I'd say he's extraordinarily resilient.

I agree with what someone else said here.... Lacy needs to be prepped and ready to go.

Caldwell was brought here just for this situation. Sark didn't want an inexperienced QB backing up an inexperienced QB who seemed to like to run a little too much. Obviously, Sark didn't think Owens had enough experience to fill that role and I agree with him on that point.

And Lacy passed Owens up.

Caldwell should be able to execute the offense we had with Quinn just fine. It’s all about quick reads and timing with the occasional deep shot. Now if the Oline can give him 2-3 secs and we can run the ball effectively then this is a very winnable game.

I hope he has more touch than Arch. That bullet that Arch threw at Wingo on the slant would have been caught with a little touch.
