Final SEC series: #3 Texas vs #18 OU

No way! If your best isn't good enough then you're playing with the psyche of the team.

He might be setting things up for the tournament/post season but not for 1 series. I can't believe a coach would do that--play it "safe", if you haven't clinched anything.
Explain to me the logic of how this helps for the SEC tournament or the regional because I can't think of a good reason for that.

We have Th-Sat this week, first game Thur next week with a potential Th-Sat if we win our first two. Then a Fri-Sun regional.

Ruger on Friday this week means what for the SEC tourney? We either throw our #1 on short rest next thursday, or throw our #3 (basically bullpen day) in game 1 of SEC tourney. That's not how you approach it if you are trying to win the SEC tourney.

I'm not doubting or questioning Schloss or Weiner, just curious what the thinking is behind it and I do think it could be a focus on putting our top 2 pitchers in ideal situations against OU to close out the conference championship. Ruger and Harrison would have been on short rest this week against OU had they pitched Thur and Friday. Giving Bing Thursday, allows Ruger and Harrison to be on full rest in what could have been the two games we needed to win to win the conference. It also means our top 2 starters get favorable pitching matchup, facing their #2 and #3 who will be on short rest.

I also would not be surprised to see Bing/Flores or generally a bullpen game to open the SEC tournament. Schloss knows that tournament is of very little importance to us at this point (especially after the win last night). If we win a couple of games and Ruger and Harrison pitch, I'd bet they go for pretty short outings to be healthy and rested for the regional.

Schloss is very post-season focused and especially with having wrapped up the SEC last night, I'd bet the pitching and roster moves from here on out are focused on health and rest going into the regional.

I agree with you. Sec tourney really means nothing, would like to be rested and healthy for the regional. I would sit some players today and tomorrow. Thinking especially Galvan at Catcher, and Schussler at first. Both look little banged up to me.

I would agree except its ou so I'd like to spank them two more times. lol

First, agree with you that the SEC tournament is a non issue now that we've clinched first. I too think we'll see guys who are on the fringes play to see who can be relied on when we get to the CWS.

I'm no expert, but a pitcher needs to throw every 3-4 days to stay sharp. I'm sure they throw bullpen sessions in between weekly starts. So a pitcher throwing a day or two early isn't really "short rest". Maybe you throw 2 short bullpen sessions or cut the last one short. With that said, ballplayers are creatures of habit. So a pticher throwing on a different day could effect them (more so mentally than physically). Everyone is a little different.

I trust the coaches. They've earned that trust. I would think that at this point in the season and where we were at in the rankings, Schloss & Co would be getting the pitchers prepared for the CWS--pitching on short rest especially if you don't have that 4th or 5th reliable starter/long reliever. Extended rest could be part of this strategy but I don't think Schloss will tinker with things just because they were facing an "Ace" pitcher in a series. I think it would be more towards his strategy in preparation for a deep push in the CWS.

Game 2: pregame talk from Schloss. Ruger needs to go 5 innings, good innings. Mendoza is starting at 2nd base. Outfield line-up is Farmer, Gasparino, and Belyeu. Not sitting ppl unless we get a nice lead. Don't want to lose to blow u.

Top of the 1st,
Mendoza leadoff single. Strikeout. Strikeout. Caught stealing Mendoza, but a wild throw and Mendoza gets to 3rd. Strikeout.

Bottom of the 1st,
Leadoff infield single. Walk. Fly out. Double play. To get out of the jam.

After 1 complete no score

A Rod on after HBP. 5 of the 6 outs for Texas have been strikeouts. Fly out to end the 2nd.
