2026 Recruiting Board/Thread

Just heard that Fernando Mendoza was a 2 star coming out of high school. This is where I agree with Curt Cignetti and his motto. His motto is production over potential.

Think about this: If Sark offered a 2 star recruit, there would be rioting in the streets. LOL The portal already has everyone on the edge. 😛
Cignetti didn’t offer him as a recruit. Not until he produced at Cal. If we needed a transfer qb last year we would’ve been on Mendoza. He almost went to Uga.

That is 100% true. Look at what everyone is saying about the IOL guy they picked up from Oregon State. I've read a lot of people saying how low his rating is. Take a look at every OL player from Indiana, all of them except 1 were 3* or 2* players. Maybe Texas needs to go after the IU OL coach.

Yes, I know. He went to Cal. My point was he was a 2 star coming out of high school. It was a jab at when people hear of a recruit the first thing they ask is how many stars do they have, crow about recruiting ratings and moan about the whine about the portal. I posted earlier that I like Cignetti's motto: Production over potential. Production and execution on the field is the best metric.

And he only had 1 D1 offer coming out of HS!

And you thought the 2026 cycle was done.

According to OTF, Texas is looking at an OL and DL to possibly add as development players.

Angelo DeSensi (Lombard, Il./Montini Catholic) is a 6'5, 270 lb OL who can dunk a basketball. Flood will be by to visit this week.

Elijah Ali (Downey, Calif./St. Pius X) is a DL from California who was more or less missed due to missing playing time last year with an injury. He's 6-foot-4.5, 285. Very athletic but very raw. Kenny Baker loves what he sees and has been in contact.

The rationale for asking about the star rating is because there are smarter more experienced people evaluating the players. Not everyone has the stats or video highlights for all HS players.

We already have a " project" DL who probably will never see the field in one of the Coleman brothers. Id rather burn a project scholly on an OL.

The third Coleman, who is a DT, is not a scholarship player, and you're right he will probably never see the field. The other two brothers are OL and are scholarship players.

I don't think we're short on OL numbers right now.

At this point, it doesn't seem like a great investment to recruit OL. They rarely start as freshmen and seem to take a couple years to develop while sitting on the bench unless they are a Kelvin Banks. I'd rather pay to get experienced OL in the transfer portal.

Definitely has the size. If they can get him to fire out lower and use his leg drive on people he could be a good. Based on the clips I saw, he plays wasaay to upright at the snap of the ball. You can get away with that in HS, but college OL would love that. Pancake waiting to happen with 0 leverage. Good prospect to develop.

Sounds crazy to say the word develop in this era of college football.

That reminds me of my HS days. I wasn't an OL, but I remember our head coach would tie a tractor tire to the OL shoulder pads to help with firing out low. If you came out upright it would pull you back. After a while of doing that, the coach would unhook a random player, but no one knew which one. The one unhooked seemed like they were shot out of a cannon. It was fun to watch and did the trick with each player.
