2026 PORTAL

When you purposefully redshirt a player and then ask him to take less money the next year due to lack of production is bad faith negotiating. Who is responsible for this nonsense?
agree... since they can have endless amount of staff nowadays, they need a war-room with dedicated recruiting/portal focus 24/7/365 days. They then should negotiate and brief Sark multiple times a week or as needed.

I was a targeting officer in the army for decades and led formal targeting meetings twice a week or ad-hoc meetings to brief decision makers and adjust to meet the commander's guidance and intent on high value targets.

Sark being the commander shouldnt get completely absorbed into this. He needs to delegate this to his best future head coach assistant (or co-HC). The commander focuses on execution and injects when final decisions and guidance are needed.

Sark has won double-digit games each of the past three years. Been in the CFP twice and should have been in this year. I think he probably knows what he's doing, so just relax and let him build the roster. Y'all looking at Texas Tech portal gets like it's some great coup. Dudes from Kansas State and Wake Forest. Their best portal get is a QB that could not carry Arch's jock. The OL that Texas will get are probably still playing. Relax and let it play out. And pray for Jordan Shipley.

I'm fine with the money on the field but at this point we can't fill out a 2 deep on the OL and LB with several other spots close behind.

I agree. The new free agency paradigm is picking up steam. They need a dedicated team to do the research to get out in front of this.

I think there are 8 or 9 days left in the portal window (but I dont know) and I agree that Texas can pull in starters that are still in the CFP.

I think what we are also seeing is the consequence of multi-year great recruiting. If you are pulling in top 3 or top 5 recruiting class in this free agency market and these blue-chips dont see much action in the first year or two (which was almost unheard of 3-4 decades ago) then they are dipping their foot in the free agency market to find a place to play.

cant fill out a two deep OL?

I'm finally seeing my dream of a 5 tight end formation! haha

I think you’ll see teams between 15-20 in a recruiting class from now on. The rest of the $ will be saved for seasoned portal players. The incoming recruits will have to be signed to 2-3 year guaranteed money contracts with performance clauses.

@Sirhornsalot - Is there something you know that most of us don't? I'm usually positive, but based on how things have been going and the unexpected exodus of players, things are looking bleek

Just take a look at Sark's behavior. Is he freaking out? Is he pleading with players to stay? Is he giving them the money they want?

Obviously, this is a house cleaning. People standing on the sidelines shouldn't get a raise for performance. So they're leaving.

Will you honestly miss French? Or Omeazulu? Neither of them hardly ever played.

We have players that we've tried to keep and did so successfully. Others aren't ones we're trying to keep. Why is that? Sark has a plan.

I know that Texas staff is going with a smaller roster ini order to bolster salaries of players who are not going to ride the pine. Some say we'll have a roster of 73 to 80 players.

Just got Raleek Brown, an awesome pick up at RB. Definite upgrade.

Some players we're after are still playing. Others haven't visited yet. Others haven't finished their visits. Be patient. This will work out fine.

Still holding strong to this thought!

Texas has more money allocated to the portal than any other school in the NCAA right now. The main misses we've had have been players who never entered the portal at all.

We're not being outspent. But some schools, like Tech, are just throwing money around at players, perhaps even to present an image of being the hot school. Outside of Sorsby, not a single player Tech has picked up was anyone Texas would consider. And since we have Manning, Sorsby is not a need.

I'm not sure if you can have multi year deals with performance clauses, but it would add some sanity, to an out of control situation.

It makes no sense to pay a 5 star guy like Ffrench and work on development, only to have him leave before contributing anything.

Unless you can get a long term commitment from a high schooler, the whole paradigm of signing guys with potential, then developing them to contribute in future years completely falls appart. This concept seems fundamental to how Sark was trying to build the Roster.

Perhaps the smaller schools will now be mostly form a farm system, where they take in a boatload of freshman every year, and then all of those athletes that are successful enter the portal and sign lucrative deals with the schools that have money.

We’ll end up with bodies, but the disappointing thing is saying “obsessed with winning a natty” and “all in”, when you’re not.
