Either way think we fine. Our offensive lineup when Jonah Williams is healthy again can be really good.
Mendoza
Galvan
Flores
Gasparino
Schuessler
Borba
Williams
Rodriguez
Farmer

Add Max in, where would he go in Farmer or Jonah’s spot ?

Watched Jonah Williams run up to Right Field wall and back yesterday. Thought he might be loosening up to come in. I don’t think they play him today and let him heal up for Arkansas.

What is word on Max Belyeu ? I have seen speculation he could be ready by SEC tourney or NCAA tournament.

Thats the latest word on Beyleu

Not only is Texas positioned nicely in the SEC, they are also separating from the national pack which will be beneficial when it comes time for tournament seeding.

This past week other teams in the top 10 who have taken losses:
#2 Clemson - swept by #25 NC State
#3 Oregon State - dropped first 2 to #13 Oregon
#4 Florida state - Lost to #19 Louisville
#5 Arkansas - lost to Florida
#6 Tennessee - Lost to #7 LSU
#7 LSU - Lost to Northwestern State, #6 Tennessee
#8 UNC - lost to Pitt
#9 Vanderbilt - Lost to Middle Tennessee, #23 Ole Miss twice
#10 Georgia - lost to #2 Clemson, #14 OU

That's 16 losses among the top 2--10. With every team taking at least one loss. Most of these series wrap up today so another chance to take more losses (and a definite one coming in LSU vs Tenn).

Losts of losses amongst other ranked teams but not going to doucment that here.
To follow this up, in todays action these teams took additional losses:
#3 Oregon State
#4 Florida State
#5 Arkansas
#6 Tennessee

19-2 in conference with a 9 game win streak. Piggy is five games back.
9 games remain in the SEC season and we hold a 5 game edge over 2nd place. Magic number is 5 to win the SEC regular season. LSU and Arkansas are tied for 2nd and will play each other. Arkansas also plays Tennessee and us. LSU travels to A&M this weekend and even though we owned them, there is no way thats an easy series for LSU.

1st, let's get Max healthy and get some at bats in the batting cage. Then in SIM game practice. Then he will be the DH only if Mendoza is healthy and able to play 2nd. It does take either A Rod or Borba out of the line-up Farmer goes to the bench if/when Belyeu is able to be back in RF. Unless Williams falls into a slump.

The way to really look at it is we have gone from an unknown bench to a nice bench. It may suck for the injuries, but sometimes that helps the coaches find out the younger players and unused players get better and comfortable with at bats and live action in the field. Just look at this weekend, Farmer gets his 1st homerun. J. Duplantier got a couple of hits and walks. Neither will be the big time, big name on the team, but both are competing.

The announcers mention yesterday that the SEC tournament is single elimination, but the top 4 seeds get a double bye. Texas is sitting nicely for one of those spots.
Texas should be either the #1 seed or #2 seed (at the worst). LSU already lost to us. So, the only way they move ahead of us is if the team loses focus and drops probably something like 7 of 9 conference games doubtful with this coaching staff. Yes, it's the staff both Weiner and Tulo with Schloss and the assistants.

Most likely in the new rankings we will remain #1. Might see LSU move up to 2 or 3. We have 9 conference games left 6 on the road. The magic number is 4 for the regular season title. Whether arkie wins next weekend or not. Texas just has to win at least 2 more and arkie loses 2 more. LSU could be lurking, but I don't see Florida and blow u sweeping us or winning more than 1 at best from us.

The next 2 Tuesday games with Prairie view A&M and Lamar are more about getting the younger positions players and pitchers needing more action to be able to see if they are ready for the weekend games and post season games. Don't look at ERAs and batting averages during these games. We should win easily. But instead for pitchers who throws strikes and who doesn't. How are the fielders doing with communication and making the defensive plays.

I've got the magic number at 5 right? If we end up tied with Arkansas it would come down to a tiebreaker which we don't know the outcome of until after this weekend. We've got the head to head tiebreaker over LSU.

We are 7 games ahead of a group of teams tied for 5th. Would take a major collapse and an incredible run by those teams for us to drop out of the top 4 seeds and not have the double bye. Like you said, it's more likely a 1 seed for us, I have little concern that this team won't keep getting the job done and avoiding falling out of 1st.

A few notes

  • Jonah Williams should be back available tomorrow for Arky series
  • Whitehead could see an inning or two in a midweek matchup in the next week or so
  • Belyeu is still 2-3 weeks away from a possible return.

Adding in Whitehead and Belyeu for the post-season run would be great.

Thanks Joeywa,

I won't count on anything from Ace Whitehead until next Tuesday. One is coming back from major surgery, and the other is coming back from thumb surgery and hasn't even held a bat yet. Let's see how these guys do, especially for Belyeu as he won't have a Tuesday game to get a feel for his swing, outside of at bats in a batting cage and/or SIM game. Both might be able to show stuff, but both might be better until regionals or super regionals. I would put a lot more on wait and see and less on expecting something from them.

As for Johan Williams hopefully he he can continue his hitting streak. Would love for him and Farmer to set-up the top of the order on Frday and Saturday.

Let’s keep up the winning and we may have some very low risk games to end the season to get these guys some work.

The conference tournament will likely have very little meaning to this squad in terms of tournament seeding and the last two conference series could also be pretty low risk (especially if we do well this weekend).

Even if piggy sweeps us they're still two games behind. Then they play at LSU while Texas hosts Florida. While a sweep will affect Texas' rank it won't change the SEC tournament seeding at this point.

After this weekend. The conference standing chenged:

1.Texas
2. arkie 2 game back
3. LSU. 4 games back
4. Georgia 4 games back
5. fake ut 5 games back
6. Vandy. 5 games back
7. Auburn 6 games back
8. blow u. 6 games back

Now, simple math 9-5=4
This week simple math 6-2 =4 still the same other combo wins and losses that Keith, Craig, and any true baseball fan/player/etc knows.

This weekend games
LSU host arkie
fake ut host Vandy
Georgia travels to Bama
Florida comes to Texas
Missouri travels to aggy
blow u goes to Kentucky

Why the constant passive aggressive insults? I’d much rather you address me directly.

As for the magic number, you say 4. If we achieve that by going 4-2, and Arkansas goes 6-0, we end up tied. Arkansas has the tiebreaker over us. Therefore, the magic number is 5 for us to win the conference.
