2025 Baseball thread

Well, Xavier Mitchell has signed with the Angels for just under $875k. Most didn't draft him due to his desire to play at Texas for Schloss and Weiner. But money talks. For someone getting drafted in the 11th rd. or later that is usually around $125--$150k bonus. Will need to see if the Angels don't think some of their draft picks will sign or if they are just willing to WAY overpay for a player that late in the draft.
Yep, they decided to take a hit of 725k against their draft bonus pool to sign Mitchell.

A&M just lost a Blaine Bullard, an OF drafted in the 12th round. A top 100 recruit in the country. He signed for nearly 1.7 million.

Teams seem willing to throw some big signing bonuses at HS players drafted after the 10th round in order to get them to sign.

We have thought Saunier would probably be moving on. This post is kinda subtle but certainly seems like a thank you on his way to the pros.

1st round pick Kayson Cunningham signs for full slot value of 4.5 million. Good for him. Could see him and Ivan Melendez playing together for the d-backs.

Luke Dotson signs his deal for 500k. That is 350k over the budgeted amount.

Also the Nationals are about $3 million under their spending allotment so they should have plenty to pay for Jack Moroknek to sign. I'd be surprised if he makes it to campus.

Texas to play in the 2026 Astros foundation college classic. Texas will face former teammate, Cole Chamberlain, and Costal Carolina, Baylor, and Ohio State. UTSA and Ole Miss are in the classic tournament as well. The tournament is schedule to be Feb. 27 thru March 1st.

I'll be there!

Awaiting official final decisions on:
HS - Boles
College - Moroknek, Galvan and Saunier
Fein did officially sign.

Moroknek signed as well.

Galvan has not signed yet but seem inevitable. Not sure he has much choice to return to Texas.

Saunier posted a vague goodbye Texas post but has not yet signed.

Boles seems less likely to sign at this point. The Royals have spent up all of their draft pool so I don't believe they could offer him much more than 150k. Gotta believe college ball is more appealing than that.

Getting Boles to campus would be a big win. No way he passes up NIL and a scholarship to Texas for that.

Saunier and Galvan have both signed 150k deals.

Really rough shake for Galvan to fall so far in the draft and take a minimum deal because he had no leverage. Couldn't really return to Texas with us taking the transfer catcher from ND Carson Tinney. Galvan perhaps should have entered the transfer portal just in case he slid in the draft and would have had a landing spot at a different college.

Boles remains unsigned. Deadline is Monday. I'm pretty certain KC can only offer up to the 150k

Texas has added an infielder via the portal in Callum Early, freshman from Liberty. He is probably more for depth but played as a 2nd baseman until injury sidelined him this past season.

Boles signs for 500k.

Its seemed to me the royals had spent all their bonus pool but I guess not.

That’s all draftees signed.

For those wanting an idea of the roster coking out of the fall and winter workouts here is what it looks like going in; but if the coaches add or remove anyone will let people know:

Outfielders: Jonah Williams (soph, returnee), Anthony Pack Jr.(fr), Ashton Larson (portal), Aiden Robbins (portal), William Hill (fr), and Maddox Monsour( fr)

Infielders: Casey Borba, Temo Becerra, Ethan Mendoza, Adrian Rodriguez, Jayden Duplantier, Callum Early, Josh Livingston

Catchers: Carson Tinney, Andrew Ermis, Presley Courville

Pitchers: Luke Harrison, Ruger Riojas, Kade Bing, Max Grubbs, Thomas Burns, Cal Higgins, Hudson Hamilton, Haiden Leffew, Cody Howard, Ethan Walker, Jack Paris, Sam Cozart, Brody Walls, Jack McKeman, Brett Crossland, Grady Westphal, Cooper Rummel, Jadyn Furgason, Michael Winter, Dylan Volantis.

Now, not certain that the staff is done with portal. Nor believe that the staff cares what the 9.95ers think who the starters are as they will use the fall and winter workouts to decidde the starters not the less than 1% club.

Now, if Galvan wanted back, he was welcomed back and the same goes for both Mitchell and Boles. It was their decision to sign with their teams. Not that he/they couldn't come back/show up here. That is as usual the 9.95ers crap on them unable to claim to come back/be here.

Thats a pretty good roster right there. Hopefully, our pitching takes a step up next year.

I know we lost some power at the plate. Am I right on that?

IMO, the pitching should be both better and deeper.

As for the homeruns goes, not certain. The staff looked for most having a better batting average over the monster blast homers. The defense should be better as well.

Again each yr is different. It should be interesting to hear what Schloss says probably next week about this group of players they will be working with during the fall and winter workouts

You really think Galvan could have been on the same roster as Tinney? Seems tricky in terms of playing time and NIL payments. One of those guys, both Buster Posey Finalists, would have to take a back seat to the other.

From Texassports.com per Schloss and staff the following are the six awards given out after the season is over:

The James and Huston Street Longhorn award goes to Kimble Schuessler

Brooks Kieschnick Team MVP and Keith Moreland Offensive Player of the yr. is Rylan Galvan

Sean Branswell Academic MVP is Luke Harrison

Spike Owen defensive player of the yr. is Jalin Flores, a little surprised he was the choice for this award

Greg Swinfell Pitcher of the yr. is Dylan Volantis. No surprise here.
