2024-2025 Transfer Portal Thread

Big blow to OU, but then again, OU blows.

Sources: Oklahoma's David Stone enters transfer portal

Oklahoma defensive tackle David Stone entered the NCAA transfer portal Friday, sources told ESPN.

Stone, a former five-star recruit and the No. 6 overall player in the ESPN 300 for the 2024 class, made the surprising decision to enter the portal after playing in all 13 games as a true freshman with the Sooners. The 6-foot-3 313-pounder saw limited playing time, playing 88 snaps and recording 6 tackles, 2 tackles for loss and 1 sack.

Stone was expected to compete for a more significant role as a sophomore, and Oklahoma coach Brent Venables recently praised him as the Sooners' most improved defensive tackle this offseason.

The Oklahoma native finished his high school career at IMG Academy in Florida and was a significant recruiting victory for Venables and his coaching staff in August 2023. Stone chose the Sooners over Texas A&M, Oregon, Florida, Miami and Michigan State.

The SEC does not grant immediate eligibility to players who transfer within the conference during the spring transfer window, so Stone would need to sit out the 2025 season if he moves on to another SEC program.

Oklahoma returns its top three defensive tackles from 2024 in Damonic Williams, Gracen Halton and Jayden Jackson. It also added Trent Wilson, the No. 164 recruit in the ESPN 300 for 2025, as an early enrollee this spring.

He was the highly touted recruit but got outshined last year by fellow freshmen Jaydon Jackson. Bobby Burton was pretty open about not being impressed by him in high school.

Funny that Venables touted him as the most improved, and now he is out the door.

We are going hard for this guy. If he comes, that makes 6 DTs we have. That may well be why he doesn't come. I would have taken this guy before taking the Maryland transfer.

Nico Iamaleava is projected to only make 900K on NIL after signing with UCLA because of taxes.
Federal Income Tax: $617,618
California State Income Tax: $210,027
Federal Payroll Taxes (FICA): $50,953
California SDI Tax: $1,684
Total Taxes: $880,283
Iamaleava originally wanted 4 million dollars from the Tennessee Volunteers.

He's making less than he made at Tennessee. lol

Add in that he will be learning a new system with a new, and mostly less talented team, and without enough time.

Plus even if he enjoys some future success, he will always be remembered for this fiasco, preventing any significant endorsement deals.

What a cluster fck.

If he was smart he would publicly distance himself from the guys that were giving him advice (which obviously includes his father), and start listening to an agent that knows how to get deals done, without looking like idiot.

Does anyone have a current scholarship count? i.e. assuming nobody else leaves, how many more portals can we take, given the 85 limit.

Like this if it happens, but I'm also a little disappointed because I was hoping Shannon would break out this year. I guess he still can, but this says to me the staff wants an upgrade or experience....which I'm all for.

Also heard Texas was the frontrunner for the Texas State kicker...Shipley, I think
I think the staff wants competition. Bringing in guys doesn’t always mean an upgrade….

Would be great to land him. Obviously very talented and with 3 years of eligibility left.

Sark has made a habit of bringing in transfers with multiple years left. Not sure if he does do more than other head coaches.

Watson would be 1 of 3 DT transfers with multiple years remaining and along with the young talent on campus, would probably allow us to no longer need to bring in multiple Dt transfers next year.

I'm so glad you said that because I sure was thinking it as well. My question is what was he thinking??? Common sense is not common nowadays

I had this exact conversation with someone the other day!
