Longhorn News/Discussion (Non-Recruiting)

Yes, JJ was an exception. Switzer had some success despite himself. The list of failures is much longer than the list of successes. Meyer, Rhule, Kingsbury, etc, are recent examples of the former.
Steve Spurrier is another fantastic college coach that didn't translate....

Here is the best thing I've seen regarding the playoff possibilities.

There are 16 mostly likely outcomes of all games.
- In 4 of the outcomes, Texas is left as 1 of only 4 undefeated or 1-loss conference champions.
- In 2 of the outcomes, Texas is left with either Oregon or Bama as 1-loss conference champions vying for 1 spot.
- In 1 of the outcomes, Texas is left with both Oregon and Bama vying for 2 spots.
- In 1 of the outcomes, Texas is left as the only 1-loss conference champion along with 4 undefeated conference champions.
- In 8 of the outcomes, Texas loses to OSU so it doesn't matter.

We've been nerded folks.

Yup. We need one of FSU or Michigan to lose. I’m on the fence about Bama since if they win a close one, I could see Georgia staying one spot ahead of Texas.

I agree. If Bama wins, then they went through their conference, THE SEC, undefeated and beat the #1 team. Does that weigh more than head-to-head? Not in my book but I don't get a vote.

What's the success rate of college HCs becoming successful in the NFL? Without doing a full analysis, my recollection is that it's fairly low. Some coaches are just better at the college game where recruiting is a big part of it. I can see why some coaches might not like the grind of recruiting, but others seem to really enjoy that aspect of the job. Sark strikes me as one who enjoys it because he's very good at it.
Is there one after Jimmy Johnson?

He's not about to get a small raise. He's about to get at minimum $2 million more a year and probably $3 million more. Thats a 50% raise. That is meaningful and shows he's valued.
Up his annual increases to $400K and add two years at 7.5M and 8M respectively. I would do that now and if Sark has two more double digit win seasons or wins a NC put him in the top 4 salaries nationally.

IT reporting Sark is supposed to start doing exit interviews on Monday, and he'll likely meet with those thinking of transferring first.

A source listed a number of guys who should end up leaving, but don't expect them to hit the portal until later on if Texas makes the playoff.

If Bama beats UGa both likely get in unless it was a down performance by the Bulldogs.

Can you ballpark the number of portal outs?

According to IT, DL Kris Ross is looking to return to the team after being dismissed earlier in the year.

He understands he could have an extra hard spring practice, but he's still attending classes and living in the dorms.

My own guess is no more than 10, but not expecting anything other than healthy attrition with the majority being guys who have a small chance at playing time in the future.

This right here indicates to me how great the brotherhood and culture is on this team. In years past, he would've been in the portal for sure. The fact he wants to remain and make up for whatever he did says a lot....to me at least.

I highly doubt that. You will have conference champions from

PAC12 - Washington/Oregon
Big10 - Michigan
SEC - Georgia/Bama
BIG12 - Texas
ACC which I think loses Saturday to Louisville.

Georgia and Bama are going to take 2 slots of the 4? So who gets snubbed? Texas and Fl State? Those optics will not go down well, especially snubbing a conference champion who beat Bama. By their own logic then we deserve to be in over both Georgia and Bama then. We beat Bama which beat Georgia thus Texas > Bama > Georgia.

I think it comes down to Oregon/Washington, Michigan, Georgia/Bama, Texas. Florida State loses this weekend

Barry Switzer....when he was named Cowboys coach Dan Cook said..."the NFL is a passing league and the only thing Barry knows about passing is that his teams couldn't do it..."
