SignUp Now!I like Coach K.... very aggressive up front - but I agree with your assessment of the secondary. I actually believe Coach K brought relief to this issue a bit last year.y'all think this blame goes to Sark, LOL, it sure aint the personnel, been telling you all season its the defensive scheme, our DBs are so afraid of getting beat deep they allow catches in front of them and hope to make the tackle, and one of the things that irritate me the most is our defense sees the type of offense they are most vulnerable to every frickin day in practice
Imo, I think PK only plays this way when he doesn't trust the S position. It felt like they were more aggressive at the beginning of the year when Catalon was in there. I don't think it is a coincidence the pass defense got soft when Catalon went down in the OU game.I like Coach K.... very aggressive up front - but I agree with your assessment of the secondary. very aggressive up front is good but if the QB has time throw or breaks contain we have Dillon Gabriel...where our defense has lapses is going from zone to man, I see lots of fingerprinting, when your free safety (Taaffe) is making tackles it means your DBs got beat, look how Penix from Washington took us apart, I hope we dont meet him again, he may go off big time, same goes for Nix from OregonI like Coach K.... very aggressive up front - but I agree with your assessment of the secondary. I'd rather be 1st in TDs allowed than any other state listed.
Points per drive is probably the best, simple, metric to look at because it also takes play style and pace into account.Seems like points allowed is an even better metric. That is actually listed on the BIG12 site. We lead that category with 200 points, or 18.2 points per game. Baylor is last, allowing 33.3 points per game.
We are 6th in the conference in opponent yards per passing attempt. Clearly teams are abandoning the run and just trying to pass it on us. They are getting yardage but not points.
Stylistically we are also playing to our defenses strengths which is don't allow any quick scores (ie long passes), get teams in 3rd down or play bend don't break in the redzone.
With our current DB personnel, playing more aggressive in pass coverage would mean getting beat deep more often and giving up more points.
It can feel very frustrating to watch teams dink and dunk their way down the field, with seemingly little resistance on short passes by our DBs, but it has been highly effective for us all year.
I do think that as we improve our talent level in the defensive backfield (and Edges getting more quick pressure), we will see more aggressive DB play.
Gideon gets a bad wrap for the dropped Int at Tech. I think he was a more athletic version of Taffe though.^^^ This is the best and most believable explanation I've read.
I think if there's a mistake here, it was pinning so much on Catalon. When he started suffering from injury, we got worse back there.
Paging Mr. Filasaime.
Williams has done a very credible job for a freshman. Teaffe, you love him and you hate him. Kinda like Blake Gideon used to be. lol
I can see why Teaffe got a scholarship. Kid is a player and has heart. He's just lacking some other skills.
If we can add Filsaime to this recruiting class the safety room becomes very good.Imo, I think PK only plays this way when he doesn't trust the S position. DW is gonna be a stud at that spot, but a freshman will get burnt. Teaffe is serviceable, but it seems they don't feel secure with him back there. Thompson is very hit or miss.
That and a veteran Safety or two from the portalIf we can add Filsaime to this recruiting class the safety room becomes very good.
IT talked about that this morning...one. WR and P were on the portal list as well. That and a veteran Safety or two from the portal
lol, like Catalon? That and a veteran Safety or two from the portal
Yes. A healthy versionlol, like Catalon?
You guys keep talking Taffe and Gideon but nobody has mentioned Dylan Haines. That guy was a slow intercepting machine.Gideon gets a bad wrap for the dropped Int at Tech. I think he was a more athletic version of Taffe though.
