As I under stand the new rules last years seniors who return ( Brewer, Imade etc.) do not count toward the 85 limit.

Last years juniors ( Jamison, Cook etc.) are still juniors. Same with sophs, red shirt freshmen and same with freshmen in other words Bijan, Majors ate still freshmen no matter how much they played.

Can someone confirm this as will affect recruiting.

"Seniors will be permitted to return next year and not count against a sport's roster or scholarship limits. Underclassmen will get access to a waiver they can use to extend their careers, but beyond the 2021-22 academic year, those athletes will count against scholarship and roster limits."

Ohio State football and the recruiting battle for 4-star wide receiver C.J. Williams

THE OTHER CONTENDERS: Speaking of schools using the 2022 recruiting class to turn their programs around, Steve Sarkisian has quickly turned Texas into a recruiting power. While locking down the Longhorns’ backyard, he’s also leaned on his time as USC’s former head coach as a resource in landing the top talent in California. That started by landing five-star quarterback Maalik Murphy — putting OSU fans worried about a potential Quinn Ewers flip at ease — and he might not be done.

Murphy and Williams are friends and have been vocal in the desire to play together. Murphy is locked in and all eyes will be on the four-star wide receiver to see if he’ll follow him to Austin.

Did you see the mention of Mookie Cooper? Says he transferred out at OSU. Wonder where he ended up.

Was sure about seniors. Just wondered about underclassmen. There could be 38 or so freshmenthis year big class.

If an underclassmen wants a free year down the line, the program he plays for will need to approve it since he will count as a roster spot after this upcoming season.

My guess is it will continue to work out as it does now where that free year will go towards a grad transfer somewhere else, the player goes pro or he decides to move on to the real world.

Texas won't go overboard with their numbers because that would severely limit how many guys they can take in '23, '24 and so on.

Per 247, OL Neto Umeozulu of Allen is in constant contact with coaches, Flood, Banks and Gilbert.

He's taken notice of the class Texas is building and says he speaks with WR Evan Stewart (Frisco Liberty) a little bit, and talks Texas with OL Connor Robertson (Austin Westlake).

His family is starting to plan spring trips, and Texas is on the list.

DE Omari Abor of Duncanville told 247 that Texas is one of the schools recruiting him the hardest right now with it being a group effort between Sark and coaches Kwiatkowski, Banks and Gilbert.

Worth noting that Gilbert is close with Coach Samples of Duncanville.

Abor says Texas is a school that will get an official visit down the line.

IT reported recently that Sark was the first head coach to contact ATH Ish Harris from Pilot Point, and the only other head coach he speaks with currently is Fisher from A&M.

Texas wants him in the same role as Overshown.

A little anecdote on Sark's recruiting...he called one of Pilot Point's assistant coaches during snow week to check on him, and it left a great impression.

"Shades of Mack", as IT put it.
