What really irked me was the blitz they called on that 3rd and long play. I would have rather them rush 3 with a spy on the Freshman QB. That blitz didn't reach home and their QB beat us on a 1 on 1. I would have rather had the freshman force it into double coverage or tuck and run with it with 17 yards of cushion to bring him down. That to me was the nail in the coffin.

Did not surprise me that the game was close. Did surprise me that we lost. What really hurts is the squeaky laughter from the Rat Bastards, Oh Puke, and H-town.

Stats are not the real story. They just show certain indications or capabilities. For instance, you can have four screen passes go 90 yards and suddenly on paper you have what looks like a very good QB. Stats can be very deceptive.
Bottom line is that there was never any consistency in this offense. Warren averaged 5 yrs per carry but got limited touches. Why? Porter was the main guy but on had 2+ yards per carry. Why does he get the bulk of the carries again?
The OL was supposed to be an asset this year. Williams was an AA sure fire selection. Today, they made Maryland look like AA's.
Defense couldn't stop a cold today. I was in the stands once when Arkansas completed an unthinkable 3rd and 31. I had flashbacks today of that.
Special teams need more work but they are the only reason we were in the game today at all.

Defense – Holton Hill played well and had a pick six.

Can't believe I woke up at 2am to watch that.
Everyone blaming Shane is way off the mark in my opinion. The Oline was horrendous he didn't lead the team in rushing attempts by design he lead them because he was under fire.
The run game was terrible, the playcalling went one dimensional as obviously the coaches has 0 faith in anyone carrying the ball.
Defensive front was about as physical as a soccer team.
Bright spots for me
Reggie is as advertised. He had a lot of hype coming out of camp seems to be legit
I haven't looked at the stats yet but i think Malik actually played OK on defense
Holton Hill seems to be back to his freshman playing style. Seemed confident and dialled in.
Let's see if this staff is better at making adjustments then the last!!

I am sorry that you are set up for a long day. After reading that article, I understand a tweet I saw earlier that basically said, our defense has trouble with run fits, we have a run blocking offensive line, and a smooth-throwing quarterback. What could go wrong?
It was my a-ha moment. Luckily, the offensive line will get better. Orlando simplified the defense in the second half, which helped, and I think the coaches have learned to lean on our All-American punter, rather than our new kicker.
We need our accurate passer to distribute the ball to our talented WR's, and Shane is accurate, tough, and an underclassman.

I am all for Shane but he was not mistake free.
The very first offensive play.
He snaps the ball rolls left. Clearly sees the defender running at him for what seemed like 2-3 seconds.
He had Porter open (from the angle I saw) in the flats but he appears to be looking downfield even knowing the defender is closing in on him.
Then tucks it and takes the sack...almost a safety.
That was just one play but throw it away or to Porter. That was a poor decision.
Granted the kid had ZERO help from his overrated and overhyped OL and ZERO help from coaches unwillingness to ESTABLISH any type of running game but that was a BAD play.

I guess Herman wasn't lying about not watching last year's film. He hasn't fixed much from last year.
When I really started following football I was in middle school and Applewhite was a sophomore/Junior but if I remember correctly he he had his struggles/limitations as well.
I'm not trying to become a Shane apologist but I will point out that as a true freshman he beat out two upperclassmen (I know they sucked but still not easy). Yes he lacks consistency (first game as a sophomore) but more importantly he lacks support, last year it was the defense, this year it looks like the defense, O-Line, and a lack of a running game are the problem.
I remember vividly how everyone was calling for Vince to be moved to WR his freshman (redshirt) and sophomore (3rd year in the program) and it wasn't until halfway through that season (yes, the big come backs) that people started to believe in his ability. Plus let's not forget Texas was loaded on defense and at RB position. Of course I'm not comparing him to Vince but simply trying to remind everyone that we need to let things play out.
Hard to run the ball after we were down so big in the first half. Teams can sit back in coverage when they know you have to throw.

What I was saying is that Herman/Beck probably chose not to run the ball intentionally with a huge deficit. Throwing the ball allows you to get chunk yards and conserve time. Yes we could have tried to establish the run, but it's hard to do that when time is against you. It's never a good thing when you have to throw the ball 50+ times.Its hard to run the ball when never really try to run the ball

Thats fine, I'm commenting on the here and now. I really only spent one paragraph on Shane.
Major didn't have much in the way of struggles. From the get-go, you saw the moxie. You may be talking about when he was dinged up a little. Either way, my point stands.

I know but they never even tried to establish a running game from the get go. The Rb's had what 16 carries?
2 run plays out of 16 when the game was tied 7 to 7...there was no deficit
