OK, I'm still trying to understand this "UT administration and BOR is trying to sabotage Strong" conspiracy theory.

Why wouldn't the BOR approve his contract?

Wasn't a budget established for the OC and coaching staff changes before the interview process?

Something doesn't add up here. The only constant throughout this drama is Strong himself. Why don't coaches want to work for/with him?

After thinking it over, and remembering that first impressions aren't always the right impression, here's my "Upon Further Review".

The only constant is that both made it to the 'negotiation stage' and then declined.  Thats a BOR/Admin problem, not a Strong problem.  Strong doesn't negotiate contracts.

Agree, one more candidate declines an offer and we really need to tuck tail and go into hibernation for five years. Didn't Briles get his start moving from HS to position coach at tech, to OC, to head coach? Worked for him, give Traylor a shot if his panties aren't in a wad over being second tier candidate.

Because most of them didn't want Strong here in the first place and they're impatient.

No, there isn't a set standard for each applicant.  Strong can pitch an offer that he supposedly has support for only to have it shot down by those that actually approve of the finances.

I know for a fact that Gilbert was in the final stages of negotiating his contract, that negotiating has nothing to due with Strong.  It was numbers for Gilbert's assistants and contract length.  Strong had no control over that.

Why on earth does our university raise all of this cash if they don't want to spend any in support of the driving force for the revenue stream? I'm sure the football program generates most of the donations and revenue. Also, as far as BORs and BMDs: when is the last time they coached, let alone played for, a successful football team? My guess is never to 20 years ago. Stick to your businesses and let the football coach do his job.

Precisely what they are. Donors aren't supposed to run your program. They're not supposed to donate for decision making opportunities. They're asked to donate out of love for their University. They don't love Texas as much as they like getting their way. Our very own little Texas Trumps.
