Good to see we're not going to wait too much longer.  Don't know if this means Cumbie has given his answer - or if Strong told Cumbie that if we haven't heard from him we would start to interview other candidates.

Gilbert was one of my favorites from way back when Watson was demoted - but missing out on Cumbie from a recruiting standpoint will be tough.

Apply pressure or move on, no sense in waiting.  They're both great candidates.  I'd give Sonny a slight edge in recruiting.

Lets assume Gilbert bring Matt Maddox along as his OL coach, who has he worked with at RB?

There is no reason to wait on the Leach Tree to bear fruit when the Briles Tree can do the same.

Higdon is implying that Gilbert would be his #1 choice if he was Strong, and unnamed coach his 1a choice, and Cumbie his number two.

FWIW - it was reported a while ago that Strong would much prefer the Briles offense over the air-raid.

This would be priceless if the BMD's attempted to shove Cumbie down Strong's throat as I've heard and it back fired while Gilbert becomes the next OC at Texas.

My only concern with Gilbert is my unfamiliarity with his ability to recruit. Can anyone pacify that concern?

But insiders have been saying the Cumbie deal has been done for a while

Were some BMD's wanting Cumbie and forcing Strong to go that route? I haven't heard that but considering some of the BMD's still believe they run the program, its not the least bit surprising.

Not real sure on his recruiting ability but he supposedly has some strong ties to Texas HS football since he coached for many years on that level. That should help a great deal.

Figured Strong would interview Gilbert if Cumbie took his time. I think we would know for sure if Cumbie said no at this point and I don't fault Charlie for moving forward with the interview process.

I don't think anyone will be able to pacify your concerns - but Gilbert was a Texas HS coach, was a GA at UH, and has recruited Texas at both BG and Tulsa.  Now he wasn't recruiting the same level of athlete, but he's very familiar with Texas recruiting.

Take Gilbert. He calls plays and Cumbie didn't. Better choice. Also a prior Tx H.S. coach.
