I'll Go Ahead and Say It, Re; Tom Herman

If you can't trust your head coach to pick his own coordinators then you probably should let him go.
This is in no way a shot at SHA but we are assuming that what this "insider" told SHA is actually true. Just remember that every insider out there has their own agenda/bias.

But I do agree with the overall sentiment.

I don't want a coach if he's not competent enough to pick his own staff. On the hand, I don't want to coach for you if I can't pick my own staff.

I've read today elsewhere from a poster named El Mahico basically the same thing I just posted. El Mahico is well known across the Longhorn inter webs. So there's two insiders who don't know each other (EMs or mine) but say the same thing.

I don't think bias has much to do with it. People just repeat what they're told. Those doing the telling only are credible if they're correct. If an agenda gets in the way of that, no one listens to their info anymore.

If UT passed on getting Tom Herman because the powers that be believe it is better to give an existing coach that won 6 games his first year folowed by 4 games the next while being told who he will have as his OC then I think I am very close to saying "to hell with UT football" and simply stop caring. Surely we are smarter than this?

Look Houston is getting ready to play for the championship of their conference against Temple.  I am hoping he is not in discussion with anyone but using the time he does have to prepare for this game.

If these BMDs have reached out to potential OC candidates, I would think these guys have reached out to Herman or his agent to gauge his interest in the Texas job.  If so, I don't see how Strong can ever get comfortable coaching at UT to develop some cohesiveness.  Even if he is back next year, I don't see him lasting beyond that unless the program has a magical turn around.

I think the writing is on the wall and it is just a matter of time.

They have and have spoken with him several times. Herman is more than interested. He's got a raise out of the deal (timed shortly after we began speaking to him). So if Texas doesn't come back and ramp up the seriousness, he's already benefitted.   If so, I don't see how Strong can ever get comfortable coaching at UT to develop some cohesiveness.  Even if he is back next year, I don't see him lasting beyond that unless the program has a magical turn around.

I still think Strong gets another year. If he doesn't nail the OC hire and get the offense going, he's done for. I think he needs to win a minimum of 8 games next year or its over.

Herman said he wasn't interested in the USCe or Georgia jobs and has apparently agreed on a new deal with Houston that will pay him 3 million a year. My thinking on that is he figures Charlie won't be able to pull off the drastic improvement and he'll be the first and only call made next season to take the controls at Texas.

Everyone seems to think Strong is gone next year at the latest, so why would Cumbie or any good OC come to Texas?

It's conditional. If he doesn't nail this hire, then he's as good as gone, but if an OC comes in and is successful, they'll get a TON of credit for the turnaround and CS (+staff) will keep their jobs

Whoever the OC hire turns out to be will almost assuredly have a 2-3 year guaranteed contract. He'd still get paid (and quite well at that) even if Charlie and staff are let go next year.

Apparently coaching Kenny Hill at TCU > 400k raise.

I guess we have lost the money whipping touch.
