THE MATCHUP—No. 24 Texas hosts Texas State on Tuesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field…the Longhorns and Bobcats previously faced off on March 27 in San Marcos with the Longhorns coming away with a 6-1 win.


A LOOK AT THE BOBCATS—Texas State is coming off a series loss at the hands of Georgia Southern…the Bobcats won game one before dropping the next two…on offense, the Bobcats are led by Luke Sherley who has compiled a .296/.394/.453 line with three homers and a team-high 31 RBI on the year…Dalton Shuffield has amassed a .362/.423/.617 line in 17 games (11 starts) this season…Derek Scheible leads Texas State with 10 homers on the year…out of the bullpen, the Bobcats have relied on Kyle Bradford and his team-most 21 appearances. 


A LOOK AT THE LONGHORNS—Texas is coming off a 2-2 week that saw the Longhorns win on Tuesday night at home vs. Houston before dropping two of three to West Virginia on the road…the Longhorns came from behind to win on Friday night and mounted another comeback on Saturday, but the lead slipped and Texas fell, 8-6…on Sunday, WVU limited the Longhorns to just five hits…Kody Clemens continues to pace the offense with a .331/.438/.651 line to go along with 13 homers and a team-high 49 RBI…Zach Zubia has upped his line to .302/.426/.553 on the season with nine homers and 36 RBI…out of the bullpen, Parker Joe Robinson has 12 appearances to go along with a 2.20 ERA.


NEXT UP—Texas will return to the road this weekend for a crucial three game Big 12 Conference series at No. 9 Texas Tech.


THE DUKE—Sophomore transfer Duke Ellis raised his batting average over 30 points in four games last week, going from .263 to .296…the outfielder has hit safely in each of his last seven games and has four straight multi-hit games, including a three-hit game on Saturday at WVU…in April, Ellis as hit .390/.455/.458…he began the month hitting .224 for the year…he also has eight stolen bases on the season. 


VROOM VROOM—Sophomore SS David Hamilton leads the Big 12 Conference with 26 stolen bases on the year…he is Longhorns’ first player with at least 26 stolen bases since  Golden Spikes Award finalist Drew Stubbs stole that many in 2005…he currently ranks 7th in the country in steals…he also leads the team with 6 bunt singles on the year and 33 BBs…his five triples are also the most in the Big 12.


CONFERENCE DEFENSE—The Texas defense has solidified since Big 12 Conference action began…the Longhorns are fielding at a .984 clip over 18 league games, with position players making just eight of the team’s 11 errors…the Horns’ .978 fielding percentage across all games is good for tops among Big 12 teams…Texas has also turned 53 double plays on the year, which leads the nation.


ZUUUBOMB—Redshirt-freshman Zach Zubia elevated his offense in the month of April…the Texas DH hit .338/.449/.615 with four homers and 10 RBI…on the season, Zubia is hitting .302/.426/.553 with 9 HR and 36 RBI. 


GO DJ, THAT’S MY DJ—After the first five attempted stolen bases against him were successful this season, junior catcher DJ Petrinsky has caught 18-of-31 since, good for 50% caught stealing overall on the season.


BACK IN THE POLLS—After the series win at then-No. 16 Oklahoma, Texas returned to the rankings…the Longhorns are currently ranked No. 24 by D1Baseball.com, No. 20 by Baseball America, and No. 25 by PG/Rawlings.
